Ky @ Bowling Green today
Ky just ran a 5.12 @ 134 mph testing just before the race. New Mickey Thompson tires. Only about 2-3 pases on them The 60 ft' is off some but coming around as the tires come in.
Stay tuned.............

I don't think the data logger recorded that pass so he don't know for sure where it's at. Next pass will tell

Re: Ky @ Bowling Green today
Thanks guys. I am just tickled with how the car ran today. I had the converter repaired and changed to spragless, new Mickey Thompson tires , and the high speed lean out. The tires are 105 circ and the old goodyears were 102, still running the 4:30 gears so I think it has a little ump left in the gears. I did not put the 4.86 back in because I wanted some back to back data. I ran the high speed leanout at the suggested starting point , but I think It could stand a tad less fuel on the big end judging by the egt's and mph .
It is picking the front end up a little more than I like so might do a little chassis tuning. I will let Mr Dilligas see what he thinks. I did bobble the stage bulb on my last pass and tried to get off the button and bump in one more time , but my safety timer to keep the transbrake from being engaged after launch did not have enough time to reset and it launched soon as I hit the throttle and that was my quickest 60' of the day.
This thing is begging for a tunnel ram and its gonna get it

It is hiking the front end up pretty good, but still a nice looking run. Good job, you'll get into the 5.0 range in no time!

Re: Ky @ Bowling Green today
Haven't been able to see the video yet but this might be something to think about. Since the new slicks are a little taller diameter, the wheelie bars would have also been a little higher off the ground if they weren't readjusted. That might have been part of the higher wheelie.
The increase in rollout/diameter might have also been just enough in the right direction to make the car work a little harder.

Dearest Ky jelly ,
1] take some bite out of the car .
2] get the high speed lean out deal worked out .
3] install the 4.86 gears
4] buy a barrel of M5 alky and retune .
5] hire a team manager .
6] forget about the fancy stuff .

Re: Ky @ Bowling Green today
I put about 2% nitro in this engine one time at a dixie race because I had to run a 632 with big chief's. It actually slowed it down 2 hundreth's, but I know the head gasket was seeping then and this could have possibly caused the gasket failure . That's all it's had in it. It does not have enough head bolts to be running that stuff . If you mis the tune up on that stuff you can scatter your engine very easily.
Lem does not approve it being run on it either and I try to listen to what he says , it would not be running what it is if not for him
The 5.12 runs are on 100% pure methanol with alky brand top lube. I do intend to run it on injected Q -16 and M-5 , but that's down the road.
Now I did run the 466 on about 5% nitro but that little engine has a lot less compression etc than this one.

It would be an interesting T&T outing to adjust the wheelie bar heights down every pass while leaving everything else the same. You could adjust them a little lower pass after pass to see at what height the wb unloads the slicks with the current 4-link & shock valving setup.

Re: Ky @ Bowling Green today
Dave I have always tried to keep the car off the wheelie bars and just have them there just in case. I guess a good question is how fast can you go and stay off the wheelie bars ? Is it just as effective to ride the wheelie bars hard ?
I have looked over the video's several times and I am thinking maybe I can tighten the struts up in the front and the extension on the shocks and calm it down some.
I just don't know what its going to do when the 4:86 gears go back in
I am just getting to where I don't like losing my view of the track every time it launches I feel like its losing a little et coming up that high too.

Re: Ky @ Bowling Green today
The problem with trying to calm a fast leaving car way, way down with real "lazy" 4-link or shock valving settings (so that it leaves barely lifting the front tires, while at the same time staying off the wheelie bars), is if you run into a greasy track come eliminations you won't be hitting the tire hard enough and could just spin it's nuts off.
Testing lowering the bar more & more (and doing nothing else) is one way to in effect take away more & more bite as Lem suggested cuz it will be attempting to unload the slicks a little more & more each time. Now if you find that just lowering the bars a very, very small amount instantly unloads the slicks (say only a 1/2" lower) then you were probably hitting the slicks quite hard to begin with (with either the 4-link or shock valving) causing it to "need" a decent amount of wheel stand height to keep from a 100% unloading. On the other hand if testing bar heights reveled that each time you lower the bars the wheelies got lower & the 60's (hopefully) got better, then the 4-link & shock valving was probably in a very nice spot in the adjustment window to begin with.
I once worked on a full chassis sbc Vette that on 4.95 bottle passes with the front wheels in the air a little bit (say 3-4" if I remember correctly), it would easily ride the wheelie bars up-on the tire all the way to half track before it would finally come off the bars. It was just one of those deals where everything (front/rear weight bias, I/C, shock valving, & C/G) was all a perfect match for the amount of power it had on the bottle. But off the bottle you couldn't get the lazy out of it no matter what cuz there just wasn't enough chassis adjustment built into the car for it's low torque numbers straight motor.
