http://www.castbulletassoc.org/links.shtml This list is pretty all inclusive on most suppliers. Did not know Bruno had a company too, he's been holding out on us.

http://www.handloads.com/loaddata/default.asp?Caliber=44%20Magnum&Weight=240&type=Handgun&Order=Powder&Source=Accurate I don't know if you have checked this site out Defree, but it is pretty good. That WW296 load I posted is .3 teenth's of a grain, above max in my Speer #11 manual, hence the warning. Be Safe.

Re: New Toy
Buying these outright can be anywhere from $3 to $5 per round. But I can reload them as cheap as my other hi power guns. Plus, my 556, 300 blackout and the 458 can all share the exact same lower and magazines. Although I have 3 complete ARs I don't have to worry about not having a mag that will work.

Re: New Toy
Pretty much up close as for as the 20ga. goes, but the 458 and the 50BW have more range and are more accurate. The penitration is going to be lees also, with most shotgun slugs. You are dead on about the price for loaded ammo. If you are talking about rifed shotgun barrels and sabot slugs, whell, that another story.zbob wrote:hey curt in the spirit of lively conversation> 50 Beowulf is a awfully expensive 20 gauge slug in a expensive gun. just saying. lol, zbob

Re: New Toy
http://www.chuckhawks.com/buffalo_cartridges.htm BeoWulf's daddy is pretty old, and the 50-70 Government, was America's first military centerfire catridge. Whats old is new in the gun world, alot of time's, it seems. 44 Russian/Special/Magnum evolution, included. WildCater's like Roy Weatherby and Bill Alexander (AA) keep it interesting. Interesting how the 50-70 Government looks like a 500 S&W.

Re: New Toy
The 458 SOCOM was designed for close quarter combat. It's like carrying a 45acp that is accurate at 200 yards. Special Ops was tired of the 556 bullets going through their targets and not slowing them down. The 458 will not only stop them, but knock them backwards. It will load from 300g to 600g. The 600g bullets are subsonic and are not much loader than a pellet gun when suppressed.

Very true, and it seems to apply to cars and engines also, sometimes.dfree383 wrote:Its technology advances in metals, powder and bullets the make the old new again.

Re: New Toy
I have a Contender as well. It has a 35 Remington barrel on it and I am having some trouble locating ammo locally for it.

Re: New Toy
Did you get some bullets loaded up yet and try it out? I would use a heavy crimp with the slow powders, even though it is a single shot. It is supposed to help the inginiton, especially in cold weather, of the large charges of powder.

Re: New Toy
Still waiting to get into my new home and set up my reloading station. I couldn't find at any thing close to a reasonable price so for brass so I ended up buying a case of ammo (cheaper than the reload cost with the outrageous brass prices)
I still need to order a new forearm for the longer barrel too.
Got a IPSC training shoot coming up this weekend too should be a blast.

Re: New Toy
Getting brass can be a problem. If you have not, you may want to try IDPA, it is fun, but can get pretty competitive also. Hopefully you can get a buddy at the local range, and he can hook you up with some brass, for free, or a good price. After you shoot your factory stuff you will have some from it also. If you get hooked on IPSC, break out your wallet, it's almost as bad as drag racing, and highly addictive, also. Next you will be building your own guns, if you don't already.

Re: New Toy
The 35 Remington was regarded as the best factory rifle caliber for the Contender, back in the day. The old 357 Remington Maximum was good also, and not to for behind the 35. It was also better, if you only wanted to carry a 10" barrel around.
