Which 460 Heads require special pistons.. Empty Which 460 Heads require special pistons..

I know that A460 heads require special pistons, but do P51's, SCJ's, and Edelbrocks?? Just curious which required a special piston, and which used a standard piston similar to what a factory head would require...sorry for what may be a dumb question, but just trying to learn..

SCJ's and P-51's definitely require unique pistons.

Actually the SCJ's can be run with dished cast stock piston. Not sure if the P51's will do the same.  If you are going to a flat top or dome, then specific pistons for them are required.  The Eddies are standard valve layout.

The p-51s and ford racing Kaase SCJs use the same valve layout.

So, basically SCJ's, and P51 heads require the same pistons, and A460's require their own. And Factory, A429 and Edelbrocks are very similar and can use the same pistons..

That would really depend upon the size of the camshaft. The valves are far enough up in the head that a specific valve notch is not necessary for a lot of camshafts. Anything under about 238@.050" degrees duration usually does not present any contact problems..
