Heads vs pistons???
I want to build a 501... d3 block with offset ground crank.
pistons SRP154166 (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/srp-154166-8/overview/make/ford) ... I would like to buy M-6049-scja aluminum ford racing heads but I'm worried about the pistons working with the heads. I don't know if the valve relief is in the correct location.
Has anyone done this?

If a particular piston will work with SCJ heads, it should tell you in the specs. You can make your own valve reliefs, but you just need to buy the correct pistons for the heads you will be using.

What length rods are you going to use. Mahle 930261990 is a 4.390 bore for SCJ heads but calls for a 6.7 rod. Compression distance is 1.525. They make it in a dish and flat top and call it a 4.150 stroke (503). That piston you were looking at at Summit is a 1.520 CD

edit: # for the flattop 930261790

Diamond is the only piston manufacturer that offers an SCJ piston for 4.150 stroke. I sell a fair number of them, or have, but with AFR heads being on the market now, most are going that way and we just change the valve pocket to suit.

Are those actually available? Not finding them for sale anywhere except an ebay listing, which doesn't have a picture of them. They do note it's a 4032 alloy. No +.040 or +.060 available. And while the SCJ and AFR valve locations are similar, they're not the same, so it it a dual pocket?

I have not seen them. I just saw them in their catalog when I was looking for a 2618 for my 13:1 build. Also noticed they were for sale on eBay. Their catalog shows a 4.390 and a 4.440 in both dish and flat top configurations. I have emailed a guy at Mahle that I have been asking other questions about their alloy. I have asked him if these are available now. I'll let you know what he says.

This is a quote from Jason Griffith of Mahle pistons.........
"Yes we have made a bunch of these pistons for the SCJ, Kaase & AFR head. Which combination are you needing for sure see below the offerings."
And then he posted the piston sizes I posted above for the 4.150, 4.300, 4.500 strokers
