5r110 direct failure
I know this isn't the place for a trans issue, but that's not really the place for 5r110's either. Anyone have insight or issues with this problem? Same '08 6.4L truck, 2 different units with same issues, burning direct clutches after 2-3 months. Haven't dove back into it yet, but in the next couple weeks. Truck has a H&S mini maxx with EGR & DPF deletes, so removing the tuner is kind of out of the question. I've been in the unit twice
-1st time with an OE direct clutch solenoid and Suncoast direct pack, clearance around .050.
-2nd time with an alto pak and .080 clearance.
I've got a Empire direct solenoid to try, but don't think the "improved version" is the answer for this. Owner drove the truck with power turned all the way, and says he drove it very easy. Any insight, good or bad, is appreciated.

Re: 5r110 direct failure
from what I know about the 5r110's is that bone stock and moderate performance gains and no abuse great trans... love both of mine.one has a 90hp tune delete, daily driver. the other is a 30hp tune delete pullin truck only.pulls the 43ft toy hauler. the problem that ive seen is the drums are stamped steel. under certain conditions and line pressures the drums will balloon and the piston can loose their ability to apply press to the clutch pack.the E4OD 4R100 have the cast drums behind the center support ( C-6) I think when properly built are much stronger that the 5r110's even when built. its a c-6 from the center support back.the 5r110 is a great trans in stock application or mild performance applications.but after that I don't know...
