downshift to second gear noises
gentlemen, need help with stupid stuff, namely me! last fall I downshifted to second gear to help slow the car to make a corner while driving to fast. immediately got a ba-ding ding ding clink-clak pow bang noise. go ahead and laugh.
....so far it is not the driveshaft splines, u joints or end clips, not the diff pin or bolt, or spider gears or axle splines. rear is a 8.8 trac lock. no loose brake hardware on rear drums. water pump and alternator and factor duraspark distr have no loose parts floating around. flex plate and converter bolts present and accounted for.
.....unfortunately I live and a tourist area and spirited driving is not going to be overlooked while road testing now that spring is here. any thoughs on internal trans parts possibilities would be helpful. fwiw car is a 12 sec street/puss strip car. thanks, bobn

Broken band apply lever, broken band, broken planetary. Do you have all forward gears?

Funny I have noticed that same issue and I think you have a few years on me.
When my band apply lever broke I found it and the dogbone lying in the pan. Good news is it is a really simple fix, bad news is the shaft it rides on requires the converter to be pulled to change it.

well not that anybody gives a ratsarse, the smooth base of the splined drum that supports the one way clutch is cracked. not sure is that is the real problem or not. hard to believe that could make that much of a racket. bobn

yes sir it was the drum I pulled out of the last clutch pack. funny the base was cracked but not the splined area the actually slides into those clutches. I am about to start studying all the correct names of this stuff so I can put it all back with out left overs. kinda like the first time I pulled a carb apart forty years ago lol....bob
