how many diff intakes for A460 single 4
i know about the old style fms intake, did ford make any varyations?
the newer style tfs intake , seen a ex514 single four , was curious if its any better then the other two?
is there any others out there?
anyone done any dyno testing they would care to share?

There are 2 different TFS manifolds after the FMS manifold. One has a flattened floor and one has a rounded, pent-roof type floor.

NO ... the original EX514 was actually made using a FMS "C" manifold design as a model.
Re: how many diff intakes for A460 single 4
is the ex514 any better randy?
i seen one forsale recently and it did look different from the old fms A style int.
currently have the old fms intake, its getting ported ,the plenum and runner openings are much smaller than the runners. after an inch or two past the opening they open up .
ill post some before and after no. in a week or two when its done.

I have a ex514 and its what i'd call in between the old fms and tfs.I think that ex514 had a few changes over the years too.

Sometimes and sometime not ... cubic inch, RPM range cylinder head characteristics, vehicle, etc. all make a difference as to what will work the best "FOR YOU" in that situation.

I've been there twice....the 'new' TFS manifold was better @ and above 6,000 rpm than the low profile tfs/ford motorsports intake.
One was a 557" [4.440" X 4.500"] and the other was a 554" [4.530" X 4.300"].....hope this helps.

thanks for all the replys fella's.
i havent seen any of the ex514 intakes run on any combo's, maybe that says something lol!
im going to dyno my combo when its done and would like to try a couple different intakes to see what the difference's are.

What it says is that there were not very many of them manufactured. They were targeted for 470 to 514 cubic inch engines.

did the older small runner intake perform better below 6k?Lem Evans wrote:"anyone done any dyno testing they would care to share?"

great info to know randy,i was hoping the port would be a little bigger since it was based off the c460design.

Have you visually seen the inside runners of a FMS "C" manifold...? The TFS "A460 manifold runners" are not any smaller and are sure taller at the plenum with a lot more taper.
Now, the B460 manifold for the FMS "B" heads are the smallest runners which will fit an "A" head.

I'm pretty sure the 557 that Lem was referring to, was mine (that I purchased from Seth Hembree in Michigan).
SO,....
With that being said,.......the larger intake made more peak power (854hp VS 838hp), but lost around 6ft lbs or torque. If I remember correctly, the smaller intake had a much better (flatter) torque curve. You have to keep in mind, this particular engine was going to see more street duty than strip, hence the smaller manifold was better suited for the application.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Well put. Due to the small 264* @ .050" cam & the flat pistons the 557" engine peaked hp at 6,300 rpm so the smaller manifold was a good fit for Seth's package.
A 284* cam, 14.5/1 piston and peak power ~7,000 RPM the value of the new manifold would have been much greater.

it has been awhile since i had hands on a c460 intake and i honestly didnt look at it too close. it would be interesting to see a side by side.
you dont happpen to have any pics?
guess i was assuming the c stuff had larger ports.

fms,ex514,tfs in that order. i never have ran any on a dyno but i'd think the ex would work somewhere between the other two.....
