rear sump oil pan Empty rear sump oil pan

Post  jasonf June 4th 2014, 7:56 am

I have a friend with a factory looking pan on it. It doesn't look like the standard rear sump pan I have ever seen. Could this be a boat pan or is is just modified? He has no idea of the capacity other than he has put 9 qts in it and still not on the dipstick. He has no ideal if the dipstick is even correct.

So he is looking for a new rear sump pan or if he could figure out this pan that would be great as well.. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Yes , this is a 370-420 Two ton truck pan..... I have made a few truck pull pans out of them, made them deeper wider , etc.

If trying to use the front sump dipstick (timing cover dipstick) it doesnt really work.

I weld bungs on the side to utilize a clear verticle tube as a site level gauge, that may not be convienient in your application dont know

These pan work well with a stud mounted windage device, I personally use the black max solid one from MPG heads

I got him to send me a couple more pics. Here is the dipstick. I have an 8 qt boat pan and I can not believe that thing holds 12 qts.

That looks like a newer model dipstick tube and for sure a newer model dipstick so they will most likely not read correctly in that pan. I had one of those pans(highly modified inside) on my old mud truck I ran 9 qts of oil in it and it didn't touch the original dipstick.

Unless he really needs the capacity,I would get another pan Jason. I have a stock rear sump pan if you need one.
