A couple of '58 pictures
A few pics of my '58 Custom at the Hot Rod Reunion are surfacing this week.
The old boat was leaving like it was on the hose....but no such hose. 618 is still rockin'.
Trying to run 9.0 for C/Gas, so we were packing over 100# of ballast and some timing retard..and fat mixture.
Unintentionally ran 8.95 on a qualifier. 9.01 in R1...9.000 in R2...broke out in R3.
Great fun weekend hanging with my BBF Bros.

The newspaper box scoop was kind of a gag gift with a dare to install it.
It seems to be .02 faster than the Aero Pro Stock scoop.
It puffs up at 900ft. Looks cool from the drivers seat.
Here is a closer pic. Thanks
Keith

Wish I could have been there. For the people that love the PRE72 HotRods they sure don't know what they are missing not attending the HRR's. I hope I never have to miss another one.

A good friend of mine was at the HRR when he got back first thing he asked me was had I ever seen a red 58 ford drag car. He said it was one of his favorites for the weekend and he is a chevy guy. I think your starting to convert some from the dark side.

That is pretty cool to hear...
It only takes a couple sips of the BBF Koolade to bring the other guys our way.
The A Head cult is pretty strong.
Thanks,

Re: A couple of '58 pictures
hey Keith, I bet the 58 would benefit from BTE's 1.98 low gear set, being its a tad on the heavy side

That is the gear set that shelled out. BTE 1.98.
Will most likely stick the 1.80s back in. They last about 3-4 years before they are worn out.
Thanks,
Keith

They had about 200 runs.
My original 1.80 set spalled and wore out at about 450 as I recall.
I keep a spare trans with a 1.80 and a backup 1.80 carrier assembly on the shelf.
Part of life with a heavy car.

A good trans guy, Steve Oldani, (Transman, RIP) once told me the 1.98 sets were a little weaker than the 1.80. To fit it all in the planetary, the sun gear or maybe it was the planetary gears were a tad bit physically smaller. Can't remember which. So you had one gear smaller and the others larger or vice versa. Had to do with the tooth count on the gears.
