converter let go
Went to the track 6-28 with my new converter first pass it let go... At first I thought I broke the input shaft or drum a weak area in the 700r4 but when inspected the trans was all intact... It was contaminated with metal and also larger metal pieces... Contacted Michael with Freak show performance he said to send it back and he would fix it but I lost my trans... Not sure if just cleaning and new bushing and seals or step up and do clutches, band, sprag and rebuild pump would be fresh

Rebuild and flush the cooler really good ! Fix it now or regret that you didn't later.

I usually agree with you but this time you're talking out your ass. Its a combo thats doomed to fail. We only supplied him with what he wanted.

Re: converter let go
I had a buddy here that bought one of his converters two weeks ago that thing was so far off it wasnt funny, put his old converter in and it'll get out of its own way at least.
If what you say is true then my statement is correct. If guys want cheap converters I tell un to call Jegs or Summit.

that makes sense. The companies that make the converters for them use a bunch of stock parts just like most other torque converter companies it's just that they produce so many that quality control is a little looser. Our X275, Pro-mod, and top sportsman customers will tell you that not everything is junk. Stuff happens, parts break. Sometimes it's our parts, sometimes it's bad materials, sometimes it's application. Ask Shane Fisher if our stuff works. He ran one of our glides after his broke, not builders issue but a parts failure, at the Denton X275 race two weeks ago and loved it.
But I guess you're correct on the price here since it didn't cost anything. I'm curious what the input drum looks like.

Re: converter let go
I agree parts are made to fail from time to time. Its impossible to talk to someone on the phone about a specific combo and build a converter that works like he wants it to.when i hear folks say "my converter guy got it first try"I know they got lucky or dont know the difference. ...

I don't think you guys are getting the point here. It doesn't have anything to do with getting it right or not. Heck, I've run ATI, UCC, PTC, and Protorque in our rides over the years. Sometimes they're "right" and sometimes they're not. We ship out a bunch every day all over the world and when you do that there is a chance that the combo wasn't communicated correctly which is sometimes the customers fault and sometimes the builders fault. What we do differently than some is correct the converter. Michael's biggest issue is falling for the I have a big race this weekend and needing a quick adjustment but don't have time to send theirs in type of deal. He's been burnt multiple times like that. Or the I have a grudge car with one small gun on a 706 and then we hear it's too loose what the heck, so we go check out the car and it has three big guns on it. I thought it had a small kit and we hear we can't tell you everything because you might tell someone we're racing. It's hard to help some situations but I tell you this I have a "big name" converter on the shelf that stalled 3500 rpm over what we wanted and the company wanted to charge us for fixing it when we supplied dyno sheets and all applicable information and it came out of the box, went in the car, and back in the box the same day. This was 1 day after getting it from the company so it's not like it was sitting for a year or something. I'm waiting to sell it used to a customer when I feel like their combo matches and take a hit before I pay the company to "fix" it. Especially after being called a liar on the phone by a sales person about the combo.
So, choose Mikes stuff or go somewhere else but be happy with the service you get.

Hey,I would not get bent out of shape over it. Take care of the ones that take care of you. There is always someone wanting a perfect part or work done and then complain . Then you have the ones who want it for free
, or cheap and still complain . People, complaining is part of working for the public.
Good customers will always take care of you !

my shelf can show you that. LOL
Heck my personal converter is in an X car in Tulsa right now to see if it works better in a customers car so we all know how tweaking a combo can be.

Re: converter let go
UCC FTW!!! Ive seen several converters work out of the box for a bit..in 10 sec cars and 6/7sec cars.....it comes down to knowing your car giving specifics on your build knowing what your build can do realistically (not what u dream it'll do)

All good points. We've rebuilt some of Lenny's stuff and it's real nice. We have multiple customers with his converters and they've all been really close I'll give you that so he knows his stuff. We use PTC on all our high end stuff and Lane treats us right too.

Re: converter let go
Why not the trans has been performing well for 4 years and hundreds of passes... Not everyone runs a high HP I'm at 470hp and spray 125hp when the track lets us go no bar under 11.50... I'm not bad mouthing Freakshow I know things break while racing just pissed its happen... Will get the converter back to Freakshow this week.. And order parts to freshen the trans... I'm using my old converter and trans for nowdfree383 wrote:Why are you running a 700r4???????
