Is Pro-Street Dead?
As a child of the 1970's I remember reading and drooling over all the Pro-Street cars & trucks in Car Craft, Hot Rod as well as other publications.
It wasn't till I received my latest copy of Modified Mustangs & Fords did I even think about Pro-Street in a long while.
Is Pro-Street dead now that we have X275 Drag Radial & 10.5 Bias Ply classes?
Are most folks into Pro-Touring instead?
Do Ladder Bar/4 Link back halves ruin on street ride & safety?

Re: Is Pro-Street Dead?
I guess a lot of folks are into that 1 car that does everything well. They're busy making fast cars go around corners and stop and stuff like that. I still believe that a good cornering car isn't worth spit on a drag strip, and if my drag car has to turn a fast corner, then something has gone horribly wrong.
I still like cars to do one thing really well..."purpose built" as they say. Lateral G's are a hoot but I get my kicks in a straight line. If it's got a license plate, make it ProStreet. I can always slap on a pair of slicks.
I'll add one caveat...After a pass on the dragstrip, stopping is one of my favorite things to do.

Re: Is Pro-Street Dead?
It doesn't seem it's as popular around here, but it's kinda starting to come around. Some of the guys that were "kids" when it was really popular are building and buying the pro street cars of the 90's and resurrecting them. My '61 falcon with some mufflers on it will be a fun cruiser when I ever get done with the sheet metal lol. Places like pigeon forge and the neighboring warren county have some pretty sweet car shows/cruise ins.

Re: Is Pro-Street Dead?
I think it is coming back. There are all these cars out there from the 80's and they are starting to pop up again, some the same and some redone. There is a couple groups on Facebook but you can also look at the Car Craft Nationals for some pro street action.

Say what you want about Facebook but it can be very useful for finding national groups of people with similar interests.

Oh, sure...You've seen them. They had that great big wheel on the front and the little one in back. The guy on the bike was usually wearing a derby hat.

Have some great memories cruising and racing my car on the street back in the 90's but then nearly got busted so no more racing on the street. Long story I'll have to share another day.

Re: Is Pro-Street Dead?
Those wood looking ladder bars are the coolest thing I have seen in years.
Imagine the possibilities with the woodgrain look...
Rear end covers
valve covers
steel bumpers
etc., etc.
Here is the ladder bar guy's build thread: post 13
http://www.yellowbullet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=967946
Plenty of you tube videos on the subject:
Back on topic....All I know is that in 1979 when Scott Sullivan came out with his blue 67 Pro Street Nova I couldn't stop looking at the pics in the car magazine. That car was way ahead of it's time.
I've never owned a Pro Streeter but did get to ride in one.
If you have the big tires, you better have the big power to back it up.
That's why I have small tire cars ...lol

I don't begrudge anyone wheelly bars IF and only if the car needs them. Besides wheelly bars and a 'shute look tacky on an 18 second ride.
