Re: '65 Ford Mustang Hoonicorn
Through six epic hoon videos, Ken Block has murdered tires and light bulbs and nearly killed a few Segway riders with his Subarus and Ford Fiestas and the little hyperboosted hatchback screamers he’s driven on the rally circuit. For his next act, Gymkhana 7, caught filming in October on some closed streets in Los Angeles, Block is going old school in this one-off custom-built, tube-frame, all-wheel-drive, 845-hp “1965 Mustang.”
The car was designed by Block and fellow Monster Energy driver Vaughn Gittin Jr. and his RTR tuning brand. Autosport Dynamics in North Carolina built the “Ford.” It’s called the Hoonicorn, and it seems to indicate that, yes, Block probably makes some money in his line of work.
Kinda, sorta based on a ’65 Mustang notchback, this purpose-built tire apocalypse has pretty much exactly nothing in common with Lee Iacocca’s original pony car and is illegal in every racing series except maybe in the alternate universe where Bernie Ecclestone runs NASCAR.

Carbon-fiber body panels cover a tubular-frame skeleton housing a 410-cubic-inch Roush Yates V-8 with NASCAR-spec heads. The engine is hooked to a six-speed all-wheel-drive transmission from the French racing supplier Sadev. The suspension of all-independent control arms is machined from billet aluminum, and hydraulic handbrake controls give Block the turn-and-burn capability of his rally cars, even though the Mustang is considerably longer and undoubtedly heavier than his Fiesta.
The flat-gold three-piece forged Tarmac R40 wheels from Fifteen52 (price: roughly a grand per wheel) wear 295/30R-18 Pirelli Trofeo R tires (price: about $370 each) that will live very short lives. Just watch the Hoonicorn in action, and you’ll see what we mean.

The Hoonicorn’s design is said to be “a mix of influences and inspirations that include the current crop of WRC cars, DTM cars, and even toy cars from Block’s youth.” No doubt they forgot to also mention the Bandit Trans-Am, Mad Max, Ebola, and the last oil refinery that exploded in California. Yes, the Mustang might have been a better choice for his Gymkhana 5 video, in which Block striped up the streets of San Francisco, but the past is the past. It’s expected that Gymkhana 7 will go live on YouTube on November 17.

It took a few times of watching it, but did you catch the OJay chase scene, with the white Bronco and cop cars, Ken even looked over at them when he passed them?
