Offset shock mount
Does someone make an offset lower shock mount? A buddy seems to be having some clearance issues and needs a 1/4". He does not have long enough studs to run some type of spacer. The studs are the correct length for his street tires and these are some drag radials so he can't just change to longer studs.. These wheels used to be on the car but he switched to AFCO shocks awhile ago and they must be slightly larger diameter then the previous shocks.

Re: Offset shock mount
The offset mount is do-able, but if it is the rear tires and the easy of mounting street slicks, would it not make more sense to extend the studs, and use a lug nut like Mcgard that would still offer elongated options for the stock rims with the inspection plugs. If the wheel well can afford the 1/4`spacer with the offset and size of the street slicks then the stock lug nuts sound like the hold up. Can we get a picture of more of the setup. It would be easier to help out.

Jason unless I the rules have changed I don't think they allow wheel spacers in any sanctioned races....... and I for one would not feel comfortable knowing I let someone use them either...

Re: Offset shock mount
A lot of fast cars have used "proper" aluminum wheel spacers (as in not cast aluminum, or crazy thick) with the big 5/8" drive studs over the years with no problems. But using wheel spacers with smaller 7/16" or 1/2" normal wheel studs is another story & IMO shouldn't be tried on a drag car.
And wheel "adapters" are a no-no on a drag car IMO regardless of stud size.

Re: Offset shock mount
If it's a coil over shock (where the mount supports the weight of the car), a single shear offset stud mount might not be the best idea. Rotating the shock bearing 90* & making/welding on an offset mount with 2 brackets (so the bolt is in double shear) would be a better idea. Or better yet just make new housing shock mounts & move them in some.
If on the other hand the shock & spring are separate, then some kind of an offset shock stud mount would probably be OK since it wouldn't be carrying the weight of the car.

Re: Offset shock mount
His street wheels are Boyd custom wheels so they require a special lug nut (or something like that) hence the oddball combo. I'll try and get a picture from the side.

Re: Offset shock mount
Fabricate an extension bracket and weld it to the existing one.
