Daytona
A lot of years ago, Chris Economacki referred to this race as "The great American stock car race" so, how did it ever get shortened to leave the Stack Car part off that...?
I always thought, (just as Chris Economacki did), that the Indy 500 was the greatest single auto race in America.
Did the arrogance of NASCAR simply give themselves some undeserving PR...?

Re: Daytona
The NASCAR of today is nothing more than a re-hash of the old IROC series, basically identical cars(although with different stickers) with same HP, only in this version there aren't nearly as many "actual" champions running in these "races".

Was the winner cute enough to keep the teenage girls excited? I believe that's their target fanbase.

Re: Daytona
I think they should race with no hood and only a 10" air cleaner on their car; at least the engines are somewhat different.
Re: Daytona
I love how drag racers always crack on NASCAR. It involves cars that go fast. That's enough for me. NHRA is doing everything in its power to kill drag racing where at least NASCAR supports and sanctions their type of racing. Everywhere

The last place finisher at Daytona was paid $262,390.....maybe the nhra could use some pointers on how to pay a purse
Re: Daytona
Not a single part on any NHRA professional drag vehicle was ever installed on a production vehicle. That goes for a big percentage of the sportsman cars as well.
NASCAR does not have a monopoly on that phenomenon...
In the past few years I agree NASCAR has become boring compared to the days or Richard, Cale, Junior and Fireball. Even Dale Sr. and Awesome Bill were fun to watch...
The last 20 laps of the race yesterday (just before the sucky Green white checker finish) with cars 3 wide and 8 or 10 deep near 200 mph was epic. I dont care what decal was on the nose.
Lets just appreciate the mechanical genius at work that allows a vehicle with a 350 cubic inch V8 at 3500lbs to propel itself around that track at near 200 mph for 500 miles.
Agreed. they arent Fords. or Chevys or Toyotas. They are purpose built race cars. simple...
If it rolls, floats, flies or shoots, Runs on gasoline or gunpowder, goes fast, shoots a big bullet,
and makes lots of noise, thus producing torque and recoil, it's cool.
But if it's a ball, made out of leather or inflated with air, that's hit with a bat, raquet, or club,
used in a game played on a course, green, or court by yuppies, Democrats, or liberals - It sucks.

Everyone wants to talk about "the good ol' days", but I think they either never watched, or forgot what it was like when the top three cars were five laps apart.

I agree 100%. I'm a NASCAR fan, always have been. I watch most every race, unless of course i'm at the dragstrip...If the last 20 laps of three wide racing didn't excite you, i'm not sure how you can call yourself a fan of motorsports..or car in general...oh, and BTW, there are some converted Cup motors out there that are darn quick on the dragstrip...reliable too:)

Re: Daytona
I think this was the first NASCAR race I flicked back and forth on the TV in over 14 years. The last one I watched was in 2001 when Earnhardt died. I miss the 80's in the Air Force with Bill Elliot in his Thunderbird and a Ford looked like a Ford and a Chevy had the Monte Carlo that looked like a Chevy. They all look alike now and at least I see "FUSION" on the front with the Ford oval. I don't like Toyota, I don't like Chevy, so I still cheer for the Fords. I love the Shell #22 because I'm 50% owned by Shell with my job (Motiva Enterprises). I guess I'm following this guy for the year now. hahah. Gotta love the name Joey too. I'm from Jersey, so there's like a million Joey's out there; my brother included.

I'm sure you know who JR Akins is as well. His "old" motor started life as an ARCA motor, he ran high 4's to low 5's in his Mustang with it. Not sure what his new one is, its a SB, but he's been running outlaw 632 so i'm thinking its pretty big.
