With hydraulic lifters there will be no lash (clearance). You'll need a bit of preload on the lifters. On your stock 429, the simplest method would be:
Remove the spark plugs.
Following the firing order (15426378) bring each cylinder to top dead center on the compression stroke. On each cylinder, that will be at TDC after the intake valve closes. The cylinders are numbered 1234 on the right bank, 5678 on the left bank. Be sure that you're turning the engine in its normal direction of rotation. Once you have #1 at TDC, you'll simply rotate the crankshaft 90 degrees to bring the next cylinder in the firing order to TDC.
With the piston at TDC, loosen the rocker nut (both intake and exhaust) until you feel slack or clearance. Then slowly tighten the nut just until clearance is gone, then tighten another 1/2 turn to preload the lifter. That'll get you close enough for the girls I run with.

I love the '70 Torino. If I had a time machine, I'd take a big stroker in a '70 Torino Cobra back to 1970. The guys I ran with would pee themselves. Cheers to you.
