Thoughts on this build - A head 533
I am, for the most part, copying the Trick Flow/Summit build from a couple years ago. For a reminder, here is a c/p from trick flows site.
http://www.trickflow.com/articles/stroker_3/
King Daddy 520
Strokers Wild Part 3
Building King Daddy 520 cubic inches ... As the saying goes, there's no substitute for 'em. And for those of you who like your cubic inches Blue Oval style, the last Stroker's Wild engine has them - 520 cubic inches worth, to be exact.
Punch an ordinary 460 out to 520 c.i.d. without spending your kid's college fund (or your own). The combination is based on a brand new, 4.300 in. stroke, Summit cast crankshaft designed to work with -- take a deep breath, Ford purists -- 6.700 in. long big block Chevy-style connecting rods, such as Trick Flow forged rods. No block clearancing or other trick stuff is required; other than Chevy rod bearings and a set of custom Arias flattop pistons, the rest of the engine is built with off-the-shelf Ford performance parts.
Of course, those off-the-shelf parts are pretty good: Trick Flow Specialties A460 aluminum heads and intake, Crane roller cam and valvetrain, Holley 1,150 cfm Dominator, MSD crank trigger and distributor, and Hedman Husler headers.
And the results from the dyno run in pt 4
520 C.I.D. 460
To create the 520, Summit took a 1972 460 2-bolt block, bored it .030 over, then added one of their new 4.300 in. stroke cast cranks, 6.700 in. Trick Flow big Chevy connecting rods, and a set of custom Arias 12:1 compression flat top pistons. With this combo, no block clearancing or special bearings are required.
Rounding out the engine combo is a Crane .718 in. lift solid roller cam, Trick Flow A460 aluminum cylinder heads with a Crane valvetrain, Trick Flow A460 single plane intake manifold with a 1,150 cfm Holley Dominator (with #94 primary and secondary jets), and an MSD Pro-Billet distributor with an MSD crank trigger ignition. The Hedman Husler 2 1/4 in. primary headers we featured in the 520 buildup article were swapped for Hooker dyno headers with 2 1/8 in. primaries. Total timing was set at 34 degrees.
Since the 520 was built as a strip-oriented engine, we expected big numbers way up in the powerband. We were not disappointed: Horsepower peaked at 752 at 6,250 rpm, and torque hit 660 foot-pounds at 5,250 rpm. And in grand stroker tradition, torque production at the lower end was just as impressive, with 540 ft.-lbs. of the stuff available at 3,500 rpm. If you can't make a car go fast with that kind of moxie under your accelerator foot, you can't go fast.
The diferences in my build will be a 6.8 rod, .080 overbore, and app 13.5 CR. I like the build, but I my concern is with the slight increase in cubic inches and compression, would I need a diferent cam and carb? What do you guys think? Thanks for your opinions, Dave.

If you only wanting 750hp you don't need the a460's!
My 528" a460 motor is making over 900 at 12:1......
Me and Charlie just did a p-51 headed 11.5:1 466 motor that made 750hp, with nothing special other than a bunch of head work.

Thanks for your reply. I got a good buy on motorsports a460 heads and intake, i just bought the 13.5 piston for those. Plus they will give me plenty of room to grow in the future. Heck, just this past week my tires grew from 14" wide x 49" tall to 54" tall and 17" wide tractor tires. The next step is 5ton rated axles and tires as tall as I am, I'm 6'2".

From what I've read on these boards, when Charlie touches a set of heads its always something special!
And its just a guess, but did Charlie also have something to do with the A heads on the 528
I know the knowledge some of you guys have can do wonders on these Fords, but did TF/Summit leave a lot on the table with the cam they used? 900hp with a 12:1 528 is a very big diference. Dave.

Re: Thoughts on this build - A head 533
For the same money, you could do a 4.5" stroke and have a 545-572ci motor. For spinning them big ole tires, the tq is what you are after and tq is a function of displacement. The A heads are some real nice power builders and at an affordable price. Charlie does do some magic with these heads and has made some serious power with them. If you are going to do A's an A460 block would be well worth the money to contain the potential of power they produce.

I agree, you need something up towards.850" lift imo...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let me first start by saying a big thanks to everyone that helped! Lem and Phillip definately found some hidden power in the tune. I can honestly say that the ability to just know what will make an engine happy is very impressive. To say that I am happy with the results is a big understatement, I did not expect near what was produced.
The build:
557 cubic inch
4.440" bore Venolia flat tops 11:1 comp ratio
6.700" Scat rods
4.500" Scat forged crank
TFS 2.300" small valve A460 Heads bone stock
Old style TFS/FMS unported intake
Mild custom Comp roller by Lem Evans at B.F.Evans Race Parts
A racer could literaly order pretty much any part of this build off the shelf and put it together... Nothing exotic here. A true testimate to what can be done with the great parts we have available....
The Results:
With a standard Holley 1150 provided by Lem Evans on a mixture of 80% 93 octane pump gas and 20% 110...
826.4 hp @ 6300 rpm
755.3 ft. lbs @ 4800 rpm
With a Quick Fuel 1250 provided by Phillip Oakley on a mixture of 80% 93 octane pump gas and 20% 110...
830.5 hp @ 6300 rpm
760.8 ft. lbs. @ 4800 rpm
With the same Quick Fuel provided by Phillip Oakley on 110 Munster Fuel...
838 hp @ 6300 rpm
775.7 ft. lbs. @ 4800 rpm
We are going to do a little more testing tomorrow, we think there is a little more left to find... Again, thanks to everyone that helped... I had a great time and learned a lot! Thanks!!!

Dfree, I looked around and found your build up of the 528, in case others are interested, its here(hope you dont mind dfree)
http://www.fordmuscle.com/forums/engine-articles/466125-528-cid-big-block-ford-engine-build.html I was surprised to find the heads only had a bowl blend.
I already have the pistons 4.440 Diamond pistons, 6.8 rod, so a 533 its gonna have to be. Oh yeah, I'll also be ordering Moroso caps for the mains. Is there a vendor on here that stocks these, Lem? Let me know, I'd rather use a vendor from the board.
Thanks guys, Dave.

Re: Thoughts on this build - A head 533
I think he has confused Milodon main caps with Moroso. Probably meant Milodon.
wvmudder. At one point in time Dave's new style TFS A-460 heads were bowl blended. Then he asked me to CNC port them and I did. I am not sure when the dyno test/build up that you found was done. I think he can clear that up for us and put things in the proper sequence.
Thanks

Yes, Milodon. I'm sorry, ive been working way too much overtime with flu call offs and deer season in full swing.
I guess I shouldnt bitch about ot when so many folks arent even working now.
Thanks for shedding some light on that Charlie, I thought 900hp was pretty stout for box stock heads, re-reading Dfrees write up I realise its over a couple year span between start and finish.
