It's a baby Hog Nose Rat Snake about 2 feet long. They are good to have around to keep the rat and mice population down. He is kind of scary when he coils up and hisses.

I couldn't keep one around here. My dog, Hobie loses her sense of humor around snakes and she turns into a "mongoose" of sorts. She's been bitten a few times, but has learned how to handle snakes. She has since torn rattlers and copperheads into small pieces. After she kills one, she'll whip its dead carcass for an hour or so....Trying to get even, I guess.

We  saw one in the garage hanging off a beam once and never could catch it. Looked about the same color pattern as this one but could not positively identify it as non posioness so handled it as such and it had time to get away. Most of my animals don't mind it except one cat but she is real curious about whats in the cage when it hisses because she did not see me bring it in and can't see it in there .
