Cat Main Caps

Can you still buy those Chinese Main Caps from Cat? I never see them listed anymore.

How hard is a woodpeckers lips?Not as hard as getting eggs and water at Norw@lk on a sat. morn.

I saw a set of caps at PRI several years ago but can't remember who was making them

The place that sells them are out of stock but for $100.00 for a set I can't buy the material and make them my self.
I have a set in an engine now and have had no issues at all. As I say they do spark a little when your cutting them if the depth of cut is to heavy.

The 385 Series main caps that have been supplied by CAT and Procomp are not identical between the two suppliers.

We've regularly had to take very light passes with the CAT caps due to their hardness; a lot of patience is required to machine past the case hardening but after that they are not unusual.

We have never had this problem with the ProComp (Speedmaster) main caps; they always machine easily, as expected, and without issue.  Unfortunately they have been on back order for quite awhile now and it's anyone's guess when they'll be stocked again.

"Pro-Gram Engineering" makes the best alloy steel main caps I have ever seen ... and, they are right in Barberton, Ohio.
