What do we do when we dont have a drag strip?

Politics between track owners, government and race organisations have left our city without a operational drag strip for over 5 years now.

So when a circuit decides to hold a "legal hoon fest" it gives us a chance to clear the pipes...

Don't mean to be negitive but it don't make much sense to me

I guess if there are no tracks you do what you have to do!! I think its better than the stationary burnout competitions they have here.

If you really want a drag strip, I doubt that event will do much to help the cause. Get that same crowd of people organized and start a push for a track...or maybe reopen an old one.

Yup.

There are a lot of purpose built "burnout cars" around here, since the closest track is far, and most of the bigger local shows have burnout contests.

My father had a 66 Volvo with a 305/turbo 400/9". It couldn't get out of it's own way, but it could get a new set of tires down to the belts in 3 minutes.. every time.

So you can do burn outs, but not drag race. Right.

When I think deeply about it your probably right, but the alternative is to to leave the car in the shed or drive 400 miles to the nearest 1/4 mile track. With only the occational cruise around town at 40mph this was an opportunity to get the car out and try something different.

Wish it was that simple! This track was designed for circuits the drag strip is sitting idle due to long unresolvable problems. A new track has even become a state government election issue, local bussines prepared to put up $25 million for a new track but govt not interested!

Unfortunately, here in Australia we're not as blessed the USA for motorsport options.

I would figure ya'll would have pleanty of long, flat, desolate, smooth roads to do some late night compeartive driving!!

We don't have many dragstrips in northern Michigan, so this is what we do! And best of all it's 100% legal. The return road is a city street and you can drive with open headers on it on your way back to the staging lanes. And best of all the city police just wave to you as you rumble by.
