Ford truck...1984 F-350 some quick questions...
The 6.9 Diesel in my 84 F-350 is damaged. I plan on swapping in a 460. Do I need the 460 engine and frame mounts, or is the Diesel engine uses the same mounts??

You will need mounts and frame stands. I got the ones L&M sells after looking for a while for factory 460 frame stands without any luck.

Thanks MJ....there are several trucks with 460's in the local salvage yard, I just gotta go get the stuff.
Don't feel like pulling the whole engine out, so I'll probably unbolt it all, then prop the engine up, pull `em out and let the engine rest on a block off wood!!

L&L make the mounts and stands, not L&M.
Maybe you could unbolt the mounts and stands from the frame, and take the whole thing out with the motor. Motor mounts are included when I buy the motor, right?

Better take a grinder and punch, the frame stands are riveted on one side and both bolted and rived on the other.

That's just great!!
These damn salvage yards will not allow you to bring power tools inside. I cant imaging trying to chisel them off.

Portable smoke wrench? (small acetylene torch set)
Most yards use torches all the time. Maybe you could use theirs.

Went and looked at a few trucks today in the salvage yard . One is a 460 but the engine has already been removed (thankfully), and the frame mounts are there.
The drivers side mount is both bolted and riveted in. The passenger side is bolt in only. And they will allow me to bring in a cordless grinder, so I will be able to grab these parts with relative ease!!

For safety / fire / insurance reasons, they could not let me bring a torch into the yard.
It took a torch to get these damn things off!!
I spoke with the yard manager, and he said, even though he couldn't let me use the torch in the yard, he would have the truck placed outside the yard with the big forklift!!
therefore, I was free to use whatever method it took to remove them!!

Nice of them to do that. Those pesky rivets are the reason that the left side is hard to come by. No one wants to take the time to remove the rivets.
