Stud wear

My son-in-law just pulled the rockers and stud girdle on my P-51 headed motor. And we see some of the studs have wear in the area where the rockers go down over the studs. This is the first time I have ever seen this. Any ideas?

Is it worn down thru the metal, or just worn thru the black coating??
If you run your fingernail over the area and feel that it's into the metal, replace them!!

Its worn thru the black oxide coating. There is a small amount of galling.

That's pretty normal. They will wear.
