I love all the Boss 429 talk. I bought a 69 in 1978. I was 18 years old. It was KK1713 with 13700 on the odometer. It was owned by a guy in NC who spun a bearing while racing it. He took it to H&M in 1972 and had it built, but had to sell it due to the $4500 bill from H&M. The second owner brought it here to Wa State. He already owned a Boss that he had chromed everything under the hood and took to car shows. I met him at a car show, he told me he was selling his other one, long story short, I bought it. That car was something. It drove great, handled good and felt very solid well over 100mph. Only drawback, it needed race fuel and only went about 80 miles on a tank. It was a fun 80 miles.
I left for the Army, when I returned, I started the car and the oil looked like a milkshake. All the o-rings deteriorated. I pulled the engine, had to replace the pump and bearings. That was back when you could buy the factory o-ring kits for a $100. I had to replace a couple exhaust valves, they were expensive and hard to find back then, no internet. They were the sodium cooled nascar valves. Anyway, after I got it back together, I sold it in 1987 for $20K. Seemed like all the money back then. Looking back, I am still kicking myself.
That's my Boss 429 story, I am crying now.
