460 oil filter adpt
Hiya folks newbie here . just a quick question. I've seen alot of folks talk about adapters but I would like to find some specs on the ones I've looked at , the 90deg one even some of the one's that relocate the filter. Guess u need to know what the 460's in ,huh. stuffed it in a 85 f150 2wd .I have about 3in clearance between frame and stock filter mounting. It had a external cooler on the block when i got it but just too thick. any help or part # would be great . THANKS

Sounds like an easy fix with the one from Ford racing. Turns the filter 90° and you can clock it 360°.

Re: 460 oil filter adpt
They were used on vans so I got mine from a pick a part.
I did a swap into an 85 using L&L mounts and the Ford unit would not fit IIRC so I ended up using the L&M adapter as it was a little shorter. It was about 20 years ago so I don't remember why I had problems so I would just double check the measurement before ordering.
Every post I have found shows the bolt so I would assume it is included.

M-6880-A50 is the Ford Racing part number for their 90 degree oil filter adapter.
6880
yep, thats the one I've been looking at , just have to get a measurement on the width from bolt head to flange at block. kinda looks like the bolts there. asked sumitt about it haven't heard back yet. thanks maybe hit bone yard next wk.

Remember the filter has to fit right there as well, it's not just the bolt and adapter.

adaptor
The old adapter was too thick cause it had a oil cooler and hit the frame. The 90deg one should be thin enough to fit and extend the filter out just enough to clear the front of frame. the 90deg. one looks a lot thinner at the bolt.

adapt.
Just one more question before I order this part. O my block where the old adapt was , there's a 11/4 nut where the bolt from the old adapt went, do i have to remove that and get that another part that screw's in or will the 6880-a50 bolt right up?

It attaches to a standard Ford Motor Company FL-1A filter stub for a Ford ... if you don't have one there, you'll need one.
adapt
Iknow about the filter! But what I'm talking about is the nut from the other adapter where the long hollow bolt went through. there is no threaded nipple there.

Re: 460 oil filter adpt
You unscrew the adapter nut from the block and the new adapter bolt screws into the block.

YES ... for those others who don't understand, that is the very part which comes on the engine O.E.M. from the factory which mounts a regular FL1A type oil filter directly to the engine.
I usually destroy the threads for the filter when removing them in order to totally clean a block. They are available from many, MANY sources ... I buy them by the box of 10 from Pioneer or Dorman. I am sure a regular Ford Dealer would also have them in stock.
The older ones had a large male hex, some had a small female hex in the hole and now, neither.
Re: 460 oil filter adpt
The Allstar ones have a 1/2" hex hole through, the older Motorsport ones only had a 7/16" hole
