Solid Lifter Design Empty Solid Lifter Design

Post  Tennessee Bullitt December 15th 2009, 7:46 pm

I was poking around on the computer and decided to look up the comp cams edm solid lifters and they are pretty high if you look on summit, Like $400+. I also found crower has what they call their coolface edm's just like the comps and they are only $119. What is the difference if there is any? Pros and cons?

You need to watch what materials they are made from, the $400 is more than likely billet steel or special chilled iron.

The differences depend on whether or not they are the lightweight option, the material, and the EDM holes. If you are getting your cam from Lem, just go ahead and have him get the appropriate lifters to go with it. However, IMO you don't need the $400 lifters. That's something the NHRA Stock Eliminator guys have to run with their square lobed solid lifter cams.

I know charlie, I am getting what Lem told me to get, the comps. I have a lunati cam picked out so all is good. I figured as much I was hounded to get the right parts I was curious about those if it was like buying a cheap forged kit. Going from a 2y crank with eagle rods and forged pistons to a full scat kit is something besides the $2,000 pice tag I will live with out regrets. Lem gave me his opinion on some other kits I was looking so this is what I wound up with. Knowledge is power but I think a stupid question was one that was never asked, so how would a person gain much knowledge, ASK A QUESTION? FYI I am getting a lot of heat from my uncle [who is a hard core chevy lover] who says solid tappet cams are junk, boy is he in for a surprise... LOL. Remember I come from a hard core chevy family from bristol, I am not a traitor but a smart gearhead I think. You guys are the best.

You'll like the Comp EDM solid lifters. I have been using them for a few years now, and they are doing a hell of a job keeping my big Lunati solid cam alive on the street.

Just thought I'd throw that in there....

Depending upon which vendor you get them from the oil hole will be from .012" to .028" some are centered and some are slightly off-center on purpose.
