Which piston with dove heads and 2.25 valves?
Decided on keeping stock stroke for my 460 build. Going to have 2.25/1.76 valves installed in the dove heads. Which shelf piston will work that will give me right at 10.5-10.6 compression? Right now the block is a d1ve block with stock dove Pistons at zero deck. Going to be using either an aftermarket I beam rod or h beam Rod with stock crank. Not sure if I should use a longer Rod or keep the stock Rod length.

What kind of piston are you looking to get; forged, cast, OEM ...?

Sorry, forged.

Nothing directly off the shelf that I know about to give that compression ratio with those heads ...
"Probe" is out of business.
Re: Which piston with dove heads and 2.25 valves?
The Keith Black/Icon IC635 piston with the 15cc step dish will give you about 10.5:1 give or take depending on the details. This piston is for stock 460 6.605" rod with BBF pin and big ends.64galaxie wrote:

YEA ... that one should work OK.
I knew they had a cast one but, I was not aware that forged piston existed ... thanks Paul.
Re: Which piston with dove heads and 2.25 valves?
Thanks. Probably going to go with the icons.

I don't know about others however, for the $825.00 price listed for p/n 8004-1-10005, I'll get something made custom.

One day you will trust me lol, I told ya Icon on the phone lol . They use a big valve relief too I believe, my Flattops did. The 2618 alloy is a tough piston. You going to want me to pick up your heads? The serdi will make the 2.25 valves flow nice, same cutter as TFS uses. Still need to know what header gasket fits your headers. I would like a new one, if CJ style I got some Cometic I can use. Do you want my buddy to flow them too?

Ed I trust you. Lol. I'm just looking for cheaper options. I'm just going to go with the Icons. Now I need to figure out which rods to use.

Randy ,
The prices changed up a bit now that he doesn't actually make them. Your deal on Autotec customs is less than that.

The old SRS was 791.00.
Is it really that much more?.........

Autotec is probably right up his alley.....they probably use a 2.350 cutter. But they don't have an OTS with a dish.

CUSTOM ... one can get almost anything he wants, full dish, "D" dish or reverse dome is absolutely no problem
Why would anyone, like myself, in this engine building business professionally ever pay a retail price. ...?
YES ... it IS a LOT more, except for an end user.
I am certainly not gonna push anything where I can't make a simple profit of even a dime; unless it is a "one of a kind".

Why would I put any price other than retail on the internet? If I did that my dealers would be rather incensed , and justifiably so.
Having said that, the PRS is easily the equal of any custom piston out there. It's not what I was making before. The giant corporations wanted that market, and they took it.

Probably the same quality ...
not actually EQUAL when one is required to accept only what is offered. Custom; I can get EXACTLY what I want.
Do you now have a DIRECT network, a WD network or even a JOBBER network for these? Just inquiring.
None of the three large warehouses I deal with carry this line.

Read the web-site. You can alter any dimension you want to, at no additional cost. I said equal, I meant equal.
I do...and I have no interest in dealing with the larger warehouses again. Once was quite enough, thank you.

I have to agree with Mark on the warehouse deal. They don't want to inventory parts anymore unless they are "A" turnover class parts. Dealing with machine shops and engine builders ( not end customers) is the "good old" way of doing business.

YEA, I certainly agree ... most warehouses usually only carry those catalog pistons with a specific part number for the most popular combinations. They are usually OK for anything with a part number and NON-custom.
If you don't want pistons for a 383 Chevy or 347 Ford, they will need to order that other specific part number most of the time. If you want something different than "right off the shelf" they won't get them at all.
