SEGA Super Stock Combo
Thinking of throwing something together for the newly formed South East Gassers Super Stock class. It's pretty restrictive. 8.5 lbs/ci. for big blocks, 4 speeds only, no traction bars, M&H 9.00x15 spec tire. The people putting the class together are trying to stay true to era correct (1967) cars but Fords can run 385 and 335 series engines. So with that in mind I was considering a 429 build using the old 460 piston/mopar rod/429 crank deal to get the compression up with an old set of ported D0VE heads I have laying around and an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake. Custom ground cam and an 850 dp Holley. Declared as a 429 (429 x 8.5) that would put me at 3646 LBS so I figure about 500-550 hp should easily get me to the magic number of 7.29. Any faster than that an you get handed a "performance equalizer plate" to help keep the original cars competitive and to stay true to the ET's 60's era cars where running.

I can already see those rules quickly being in favor of Chevy and biased against Ford.

Re: SEGA Super Stock Combo
The two guys writing the majority of the rules are Ford and Mopar guys. My first thought when I saw the rules package with a big/ small block cutoff at 380 ci. was Novas with 377s will dominate, but small block cars are 9.5 lbs/ ci. to keep cars a little more even. Besides if someone shows up and runs a low 6 second pass they will immediately get an equaliser plate with holes the size of a quarter handed to them.

The only reason those rules may favor a Chevrolet is that there is more available aftermarket parts which can help a Chevrolet engine ... if you go to fast, you'll get penalized.

Hell a 66 mustang with a 289 and some work would be cheap and mop up imo

A 347 size Boss 302 or 351 Cleveland would require right around 3,000 pounds and would easily run the number.

3000LBS. is the minimum weight. I'd considered both 289 and 351 combos but I have a spare C9 block, D0VE heads, and 429 rotating assembly, and the car is setup for a big block. Easily run the number and a relatively cheap build.
Here's the official rules. As this is a new series I'm sure rules with change with time but it's a good starting point.

A Mustang with a 4 speed and NO traction bars is a big problem or an expensive set of leaf springs.

Pinion snubbers, split mono leaf springs, and homemade torque arms and good adjustable shocks will help. Just nothing adjustable like Caltracs. Bigger challenge will be the skinny slicks and H pattern shifters. I already have an adjustable pressure plate which should go a long way in getting the car down the track.
