Getting the parking brake cable out of the backing plate......

I find it easier to remove the cable by using a hose clamp to close the "fingers" of the parking brake cable's ferrule that locks it into the backing plate. Once the closed "fingers" just make it through the plate, I remove the clamp and the cable assembly is then easily removed. Hope this helps.

If you don't have a clamp small enough you can just use pliers to compress a few of them, turn the cable at an angle to get those fingers started then turn a little and do it again till all the fingers are through.

put a 1/2" box end wrench on it and rotate back and forth it will pop right out
