Aren’t some of the mentioned issues more applicable to old old blocks, the newer designs are much better.

I wouldn't say that....
My block was cast in the mid 80's and was a 30 year old virgin when it got built...
I haven't had any issues..
Well, except for the block not having oil drain back holes in it.... Cool
