Block decking
Do I have to have the bottom end with all 8 pistons in the block to have a machine shop 0 deck the block?
Also what would my c/r be with d3 heads and factory dished pistons and 0 deck, D1VE block.

Re: Block decking
Just need four of them (1-4-5&8 ). Basically just the ones in the corners. I'm not sure about what your cr will be.

WWW.diamondracing.net has the best comp ratio thing that I have seen...it's on the home page .

I think it would be best to take them all 8... as there is bound to be 1 short and 1 long rod piston combination, and it would suck to have taken the 4 shortest/longest ones and find a couple in/out of the hole more than you expect.
If you are going to pony up for balancing, they will need all 8, balancer and flexplate/flywheel also. Save the fuel money making several trips, imo.

Re: Block decking
Personally, I don't know of any shop that can/will deck a block with the pistons installed. Block must be neked as the setup is off the main bearing bores.
Re: Block decking
Got me there Chuck... lol. Didn't see the "installed" part.

I think that by installed, he meant so that the measurements could be taken and then they would be pulled out.
Point taken longroofracer, having all of them in would let the machinest measure all of the cylinders. But if there's differences in the overall lengths of the piston/rod assemblies, the machinest would either (hopefully) ask if you'd prefer that he'd use the longest, shortest or an average. Depending on the application in or out of the hole might work better. I'd think out of the hole would be better and adjust the quench area by selecting a head gasket that would give the amount of clearance needed for the application.
