Carb sizing
Did a search & went back 1/2 dozen pages…
466, 11.1, 242/248 solid roller, TrickFlow 290’s. Just putting this back together with different heads & cam. Currently it has a 4150 Victor & a 850 Race Demon. Contemplating selling the intake & finding a Dominator Victor & a Dominator. Or, I could try a 950, or, I can keep using the 850, but I have a feeling it will not be enough.

Dominator will do the trick . 950HP is still not enough.

That part number is certainly a work horse as there are 4 different versions of that L8896.
The first version has press-in bleeds and bar type boosters so, be careful with just part numbers.
In any case it is a 3 circuit but, the intermediate circuit is very lean on most versions.

But the dominators always seem to make more power

Re: Carb sizing
My first race engine was close to your specs. I called Patrick at pro systems and I bought the 4150 950. It ran very well and the carb was very consistent.
I blew that motor up, the second motor was pretty much the same spec wise. it was a flat top motor with a comp roller lifter cam. After the build was complete
it was put on the dyno. it made 721 hp with the Pro System 4150. I swapped out the intake on the dyno with a dominator flange intake with the ports gasket matched. I borrowed a Pro Systems 1150 that my engine shop had for the dyno. The new combo made 787 hp @ 6900.
The engine loved the dominator and the engine just seemed to come to life with the increased breathing. The carb never was removed from the engine.
I bought the dyno Carb and and it came home with me.

So with the Gasket Matched Dominator Flange Intake and Pro Systems 1150 you picked up 66 Horsepower over the Pro Systems 4150 Carb if so Very Impressive?FWIW i put a 1/2" 4150 to Dominator Adapter on my Victor Intake with a Quick Fuel QFX-4700 on my 466 and seat of the Pants says it picked up a nice power gain over the 1,000 HP 4150 carb i had on it before!!FWIW i have a Dominator Flange Victor that's Gasket Matched to CJ Port Size i have Aluminum Ford Racing CJ Heads!!

Re: Carb sizing
God damnit! That is NOT what I wanted to hear! But, thank you for sharing! I just ordered a 1000cfm AED from Summit. I wanted a Pro Systems 4150 but they only build them in black or silver. This is a “retro” build & I had to have a traditional looking Holley. I’m just so leary about my capability’s in tuning a Dominator to run on the street, & down the track. My goal is a race week car. I want a freaking Dominator!!!

Re: Carb sizing
If you understand how they work there shouldn’t be much of a difference in tuning a 4150 vs a 4500. I’m definitely not the “carb whisperer” so personally I stayed with a 2 circuit Dominator vs going with a 3 circuit.

Re: Carb sizing
It was probably about 15 years or so ago that Bill Mitchel offered a 1050 Dominator carburetpr with basically a 2 circuit, L8082 primary with a 3 circuit, L9375 secondary side; used for supposedly the optimum street/strip carburetor.
You can get a 1050 Dominator modified like that from several different carb modifier sources, if you talk with them to build you something custom.
It probably won't be cheap, though.

Re: Carb sizing
Just got a price for a Pro systems 1050 dominator for my 528 Hemi and Patrick’s pricing is pretty good.

Re: Carb sizing
I’m going to try this AED 1000cfm 4150 for now. If I find a good used Dominator I may eventually make the switch. The difference for me right now is price. A pre tuned 4150 is cheaper. I’ll learn as I go. When the big cubic inch bottom end becomes a reality I’ll switch to a 4500

Re: Carb sizing
I will say that if I ever have to send a carb in for work, it will go to ProSystems. Patrick is fast in replying to emails & took the time to explain a few things to me.

I forgot to ask before but what cubic inch was the engine you're talking about above?
