Are you looking for a whole axle or just a center section?

Posi is a non-Ford term. Locker is the Ford terminology.

9" diffs were used in F150 trucks thru 1986. Limited slip units have an "L" stamped in the metal tag that hangs from one of the center section stud/nuts.
An open center section will not have the L on the tag.

I did what you are thinking of doing some 30 years ago.
Good luck.

Thanks for the responds - Just something for a 56 F100 street rig with a mild 460 / C6 to burn'em off now & then. I can narrow & tuck under some meats. Just don't want to crawl under every car/truck to find what I'm looking for.

A later model 8.8 is easily strong enough for this application and, much easier to find.

And a lot of them came with TracLoc’s, 31 spline axles and disc brakes.

9" Posi ? Empty Traction locks

Post  manofmerc March 19th 2022, 6:01 am

Lathe chips you can buy all types of carriers for 9" fords a Detroit Locker is the best .My experience with ford traction locks is they will hold up ok until you put slicks on your vehicle .After a while it seems the clutches burn up .But for simply burning a little rubber on the street a factory style traction lock is ok I have a 31 spline 2.75 with traction lock I would sell you if interested I live in Ga. Sometimes you can find a used Detroit locker. Avoid muscle car era traction locks if the carrier has the carrier isn't as strong as a later version out of a truck it will crack .Doug afro
