A460 Head - New CNC Program - Build for 565
(This might get edited a few times)
Over the past 6 years or so, my good friend,Geoff Mummert, and I have discussed replacing my set of 35 year old A460 heads that have been on the 1,000 hp 565. This past year, 2023 we finally got the project started with a set of bare 340cc TFS heads ordered from Summit.
The As-Cast 340cc port ended up at 375cc - The port flows 480-ish cfm at .900" through a 2.385" valve. Port speed is approx 310 fps.
As cast Chamber: 83cc
Finished chamber: decked to 76cc
Finished Intake port:
Ex:
Preliminary upper flow numbers: ( final flow depending on valve job)
The exhaust flow 340 @ .750 and 366 @ .900" with a 1.88" valve.
Some of what it took to get there:
molding the old A460 port vs the new TFS Port:
Ex port:
Some Programming work:
manifold fitting after we shifted the heads .035" - .035 dowel shift
The engine is going back together at 12.75:1 (target compression) it will be no lower than 12.5:1. It should be a bit stronger than the rebuild from 2021 that made 1,002 at 7,600 and 771 lbs ft at 6,000. (those heads flowed about 450 cfm with a 2.4" valve. The air speed was approx 270 fps) This should be a bit stronger. Hopefully we'll be on the dyno April
project engine: Boat engine - Target peak power 7,200-7400

Is this the same Mummert that did a crazy set of iron 302 heads a few years ago?

Are You Sticking with the Same Camshaft?
Those Heads look Great by the Way. Hope you pickup a little HP.

Same Mummert. Those 289 EMC heads he gives credit to someone else for their program. I'm pulling a blank

the cam is getting a bit of a bump, but we are considering doing an A/B test two days on the dyno. I think it would be beneficial to do so.

If you see him ask him how much they are getting to run a set of heads that that program.

Damn those Intake and Exhaust ports look so nice it's to bad you have to bolt and Intake and Exhaust on to them!!But i guess if you don't you can't get any Horsepower Numbers from those great Flow Numbers!!

Final flow numbers from March:
Getting things sorted out on the dyno in May:
Power numbers with the old Comp "RV" Cam 275/277 @ .050.
In February of 2023 I wrote down my goals for the engine ..... Not a bad estimate. :

Slow progress on my one-off cast TR project - slow, but making progress :
Maybe in Oct-Nov I'll get on the dyno for some A-B testing vs the available TFS TR :

Really good numbers for that size port ... hope they will be available to anyone.

I hope to make up a couple sets next year.
We'd like to do a set with a 2.45" intake.
