Question about the cubic inch chart
Hey guys just had a quick question on the cubic inch chart for a 460. The motor is 4.440 bore, stroke is 4.150, and it has a 6.8 rod length. So my question is,does the rod length actually make the cubic inches any more because most of the charts I have seen do not even take it into account. The bore and stroke equal around 514 but I am not sure if the rod length would change it at all and if it does anyone know what CID this motor would be at?
Thanks, Doug

Re: Question about the cubic inch chart
Hey Doug,
The cubic inch calculation is strictly a function of bore and stroke and combustion chamber volumes.
Some say the rod to stroke ratio effects torque peaks, some say it has no effect.
So, no, the rod length has no impact on engine displacement.

Re: Question about the cubic inch chart
Thank you we were wanting a 514 so this will be what we were wanting to get. Now just got to get this motor put together get a crank for the other and we will have motors for both the mustang and Ranger.
Thanks, Doug

COMBUSTION CHAMBER VOLUME has absolutely NO affect upon engine displacement.
It will effect the compression ratio.

Yep, your right Randy! Sorry about the brain fart...

Re: Question about the cubic inch chart
Yeah Lem built our other motor in the mustang but we got a pretty good deal on some parts to put another motor together for our Ranger, so I was just making sure the CID was correct that he told us.

Re: Question about the cubic inch chart
Bore x bore x stroke x 6.2832 = CID for an 8 cyl engine....
