Ground rods Empty Ground rods

Post  bb429power February 14th 2010, 9:11 pm

I've been getting a lot of crap from people about my connecting rods. I ground off the extra cast to strengthen them for my 550hp@5000rpm build. I'm going to be getting the rpm's up to 5500 to shift but I don't want to push it. They are DOOE-A from a 71 429 base block. The pictures are of the opposite sides so it looks like I took more off then I really did. These are stock rods for a car with the rectangular bolts.

I'm usig these pistons and heard that if I used forged then it would break the rods. I don't know if these are forged.

Only a minimal amount need to be taken off the rod. Just enough to remove any scratches that might lead to a stress riser and a crack later. Always grind with the length of the beam, when doing this process and polish.

It maybe that what you heard about the pistons breaking the rods was because of the weight of the pistons.

Weigh you're rods an make sure they're all very close to the same weight so as to reduce difficulties when balancing your rotating assembly, other than that it looks pretty good.
