Re: OT---Fairlane question
Rick,
Several years ago when ESPN/ESPN2 used to have truck pulling and mud racing on their network, Army was generally the announcer. He was born and raised in Owensboro. We were all "gearheads" in high school.

Charlie,(Army Armstrong) Where have I heard that name before. I racking my little pee brain. HELP!
Mr. Armstrong at one time was associated with the TNT (tractor pulling) group as an announcer for television. He has (and may continue) to announce for many venues, most of which I know, automotive and performance competition related. I believe Army continues to reside in the Owensboro area. During the era of Windy Hollow's infancy, Army was part of the Volkswagen group of cars that competed in NHRA Competition Eliminator (Modified Eliminator) with the "Makin Bacon" entry. Yes, a picture on the cars door of a pig humping another! Our mentor Uncle Charlie is a long time good friend of Army. He can and will add more I'm sure.

FAIRLANES
David congratulations on your purchase. You were right of the 390 2V option, also I'm not sure of the 289 versions as options. The '67 model GT/GTA's 390 engine was advertised at 5 less horsepower for some reason! About the only thing I've noticed between the "67 and '66 engine is the air cleaner and the valve cover shape. The '66 GT/A Fairlane carried one engine, 390/335 and a one year hood. I did a bit of research yesterday of the '66 and '67 Fairlane GT/GTA's after Uncle Charlie posted his "Fairlane Trivia". I noticed, and I'm not aware of this (imagine that), pictures of Fairlanes with the 427 Ram Air hood and GT badging and stripe! In '66 I though the 427 Fairlane (R code) was the Fairlane 500 model only, with 57 units built by Ford! As to Uncle Charlie's post as to the number of '67 Fairlane 427's and the Tunnel Port cylinder heads I haven't a clue! ...
Anyway, enough of that bullsh!t. That is a nice looking car. I've had two and sold both. I sometime wish I still had them, but too much sitting around is nice but aggravating at times. It's much harder to keep a car that sits in good condition than one that's driven daily!

What I should have wrote of the 1967 Fairlane GT/GTA 289 options is this; 289/271, 289/225, 289/200. Sorry to misrepresent the 1967 Fairlane GT/GTA did not have a 289 engine of sorts!

Re: OT---Fairlane question
Naw, let's keep it an FE. Livermore Dave has a good FE CJ stroker 428 engine going together right now that has fully ported Edelbrock heads and manifold on it. Those parts will make a very nice engine.

I know Charlie and have talked with him on a few occasions and done business with their company, (Booze Brothers Racing) but I haven't ever talked to Brian. Nice guys from what I gather.

That FE project was a "Pet Project" with Jim Kuntz. That engine (452 C.I.) made near 900 horsepower! As with most Booze Brothers engines, Jim takes a big interest in each, rightfully so!
Dave, the more I look at your newfound excitement, the more I wish I had the GT's back in my shop! They are beautiful cars IMO, and yours is the same. As Uncle Charlie mentioned, and I plea to you, keep it FE! Those three (3) carburetors sure add the WOW factor, as did the Tri-Power GTO's!

Mark! I remember working at the Sunoco station and he would put pump gas in it. He was the first around here to use an X-pipe exhaust. I liked it so much....the sound, I have been using them for years. Don't know if there is any HP gain though.

65 T-Bolt,
I thought i remember Charlie telling me one time that on a chassis dyno he made more power with the x-pipe on the Torino than without it.

Re: OT---Fairlane question
Update:
Got the new wheels on. I think they look good. Stepped up from 14X7's. It now has 16X7 w 215/60-16 on front and 16X7.5 w 235/60-16 on rear. Torque Thrust II's one piece polished.

Re: OT---Fairlane question
David! Very cool! Thumbs up! Those wheels fit that Fairlane well! Any other wheel would have looked like crap on it. I bought a pair of the 15x4's after my weld 2.0's were stolen, only because I couldn't afford another pair of 2.0's . They look better on my 65, just wish they weighed a little less than they do!
