Valve job.. Empty Valve job..

Post  OldRedFord February 18th 2010, 3:53 am

Do you guys think I made a bad move by not doing a valve job on my
heads? None of the valves were burnt, none of the seats or the sides of
the valves looked to be buggard up. The guides do not seem to have
excessive wear. I have changed out the valve springs for new ones.

If I was going to do a 3 angle valve job I would have the heads cut for
bigger valves, upgrade to stainless valves, have the guides replaced
and cut for p/c seals, more intensive porting, and have the shop put
the heads together and set the spring height.

But I do not have that kind of cash right now and just want to drive the dang truck.

I would hand lap them and check to see if they were sealed by pouring lacquer thinner into the ports. If they leak, you need to touch them up. I know this is old school , but if your on a tight buget, you do what you can.

But if they leak, you need to fix them, before they go back on.

X2 and do lap the valves if you have on leaking take a rubber hammer hit the top o the valve hard enough to make it open but not hard enough to drive it out of the bottom of head if this does not stop the leak it relap it

Just interested, don't mind me. Didn't hear about the lacquer thinner or rubber hammer tricks....

I did lap the valves. Got the suction cup tool and the grinding compound. Spun the valves back and forth. Looked pretty nice.

I swore I took pictures but cant find them.

Oh ya a guy on another site said that lapping valves was for third world countries. Valve job.. Suspect

I will do the languor thinner thing and check my work.
