Head gasket question Empty Head gasket question

Post  sixtynineford Sat 20 Feb 2010 - 23:30

I am reassembling my 521 and trying to decide head gaskets, I have flat top pistons (only .001 in hole), Dove heads worked. I had headgasket issues (headgasket was blown between h20 jacket and lifter gallery) is why tore down this winter suspect problem caused by detonation from running junk gas. I was running the ford felpro gaskets but am looking for mls this round as I am gonna be spraying 200plus n20 at some point this season. All the mls gaskets I can find show 4.600 or so bore, I guess question I am asking is if that will work on my 4.390 bore motor without causing weird quench problems or such? Or should I run copper or ???

Lem sells the Cometics, I'd give him a call. He can answer all your questions.

We have the .040"-.045"-.051" in stock . If you desire a smaller bore gasket that can be done .

What would cause the gasket to blow out from the water jacket to the lifter valley?

That would be my biggest question on this deal.

I suspect detonation blew between combustion chamer and water jacket and then water jacket to lifter valley because I have straitedge check both block and head and look good, I also wasnt running enough octane rating for compression. And looks like I will be calling lem because I really just need some to know what diameter headgasket is needed with 4.390 bore and dove steel heads.
