6.7L numbers are out.
DEARBORN -- The new 2011 Ford F-Series Super Duty delivers the most heavy-duty truck horsepower. Top torque. Industry-best towing capability and payload. Fuel economy leadership. In short, the new Super Duty delivers leadership in every feature that matters to heavy-duty truck customers.
With Ford-built diesel and gas powertrains, the all-new Ford Super Duty dominates the competition in payload, conventional towing, fifth-wheel towing and gross combined weight rating in both pickups and chassis cabs. Diesel engines account for 65 percent of the Super Duty sales, with gas engines making up the remaining 35 percent.
The new 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 turbocharged diesel – designed, engineered and built by Ford – delivers class-leading fuel economy as well as best-in-class 390 horsepower and 735 ft.-lb. of torque – that’s 75 ft.-lb. more than its nearest competitor in the market today. Plus, the new Super Duty fuel economy improvement averages 18 percent better for pickup models and up to 25 percent for chassis cab versus the outgoing Super Duty.
Significantly improved torque – 85 ft.-lb. more than the current 6.4-liter Power Stroke diesel – is good news for the nearly 97 percent of Super Duty customers who tow and helps the 2011 Super Duty deliver class-leading towing capability of 26,400 pounds with the F-550 chassis cab. The 2011 Super Duty also has class-leading payload capability of 6,520 pounds.
“Having best-in-class numbers is powerful, but the real payoff is how those numbers deliver for our customers,” said Mark Fields, Ford president of The Americas. “For 33 years, F-Series has been the No. 1-seller in America because we listen to our customers. With Super Duty, they’ve told us how they use their trucks to tow, and on the new truck, we focused on delivering best-in-class towing capability for them with new powertrains that deliver best-in-class power and best-in-class fuel economy.”

Sounds a lot like the same page they were singing off of with the 6.0 & 6.4. They were the best thing since a pocket on a shirt, even better than the 7.3, according to their propaganda.

I'm sure a 250 hp deal would have been cheaper but that's not what the market demands . I am also sure that the engine is designed for more that 390 hp .

The 2011 F350 I seen was only getting 14-16mpg.
The ford guy said it would get better as it wasn't broke in yet.

I can bitch all I want, I'm entitled............in the end I still get the stuff fixed.
On the Toyota subject, Ford has used throttle by wire since 94.5 on its diesels, never had one go WOT unexpecdedly.

And if it does I still have the key to turn off as well as the gear selector to throw in neutral....
I fail to see how the Toyota drivers simply can't select "N" on the gear shift then flip the key off
I'll take a 6.7 after a few years of depreciation and the urea stuff is worked out a little bit better...
There is discussion going on now about urea injection and other "exhaust scrubbers" that will be mandated in our offshore supply boats in the coming years...
Can you imagine a DPF or urea tank that'll handle a 1,5000 - 2,000hp Cat diesel? If you can, imagine it and multiply it by about 7 or 8 engines and that's what we'll be forced to do at work!

You are right. It can take and make well over 390hp, (it's a diesel who gives a shit about H.P) but with the epa down our ass, keeping the engine clean and trying to make it best in class while keeping the engine reliable, there are sacrifices that have to be made.. (soot, coking, EGR cooler fouling, over-temping the turbo, etc...).
If Gale Banks loves our engine and is gonna make a 1,400 hp drag engine!! Then I guess there is some good in this new girl..
Everybody thinks the 7.3L is so GREAT! (and by all mean's it was and still is) But with all the EPA standards things have to change.
Big "D" you got that drink ready? I need one!

Well as long as it doesn't blow up as soon as you put an air intake on it I am sure it will do well. I get about 16-17 mpg with my F350 4x4 (4.11gear) so if all they can muster is 14 that is pretty sad. I sure hope I can get about 1 million miles out of my truck.

Re: 6.7L numbers are out.
I'd like to see if any of the parts are going to be cheaper. Is there more room in the engine compartment? How many qts of oil does it take durring an oil change? How much is the air filters? What type of oil filter? How many fuel filters? Water / fuel seperator?
I the maintance cost is what kills me and my local dealership is already trying to get me ready for a new 2011 diesel when they arrive.

7.3L cheerleader right here
My 97 PowerStroke is ready to turn over 300k and it hasn't skipped a beat. The EPA can kiss my ass & choke on my black smoke. It only has a few little mods and it puts down 325hp/650tq. If want 400/800 it's only a matter of a new set of squiters, turbo & tune.
If someone is looking for a new Diesel Truck, (I'm sure as hell not), they would be a fool to run out and lay down 50k + for a truck with an engine platform that's not been tested.
I don't think it's going to a repeat of the 6.0 era, but you still never know.
IMO,.....let someone else be the guinea pig & deal with the recalls / screw-ups that they didn't get right the first time around.
FWIW,... It's NEVER a good idea to buy change-over model, no matter what brand/model it is.

I am sure everybody hopes you are right hallet (I know I sure am) but Fords record really sucks since the 7.3. Right now I would buy a Duramax before I would buy a Ford and Ford is to blame for that.

Guys the trucks have been awsome, its the 6.0/6.4 that internation built that gives them the bad rap. I rekon this is why Ford decided to do thier own deal.

I sure hope they got it right this time, past time for a new welding truck. I hate to get a first year on anything, but the old 7.3 is starting to nickel and dime me. Before long, it's gonna be expensive.
