Taking The cougar to chassis dyno
I'm gonna take my cougar to a chassis dyno tomorrow. Not really expecting big numbers, but wanting to get my timing dialed in and see where peak power is. Dyno jet dyno. Should be interesting I thing I may be running one of the smallest big blocks on here, 429 with procomp heads...
429 .030
small dome piston
h beams
.258/.260 @50 640/640 lift 108'
4150 Victor 850 Holley
Will let ya'll know what happens...

Re: Taking The cougar to chassis dyno
Well we got back from the dyno, numbers were, with my carb: 353 hp @ 6500 with there carb 363@6500 peak torque was 347@ 5000 with my carb and 351 with there carb.
My carb was getting fat up high and had 80/80 jets in it we changed jets 75 in the front 76 rear and picked up power went from 345 to 353
Will try to scan the sheets in the morning here are some videos.

Looks like it was right where you expected it to be... no disappointments there.

Re: Taking The cougar to chassis dyno
I wonder what a 429 would make with p-51's? or your 435

I'd say that's very respectable for your combination. Good deal!

I have seen those rwhp numbers with a c6 and ported iron heads with large valves at 5,500 rpm with a 20 degrees less cam duration.
The p-51's would do the same thing with a bunch less cam and a much lower rpm.
This is an example of throwing a bunch of cam at a mediocre pair of heads getting decent numbers but at very high rpm.
Not trying to be a jerk in any way here.
Re: Taking The cougar to chassis dyno
I'm running a C6 and 4.56 gears, while I'm ok with these numbers I have went backwards. My 460 with flat tops way down in the hole, stealth intake, cam, .244/254 .588/614 112*, c9ve heads only the bump in exhaust ground out, big valves and turbo mufflers made, 320 hp @ 6000 & 398 ft torque.
But hey I'm all about learning and trying things out, this aint a bad little motor, its is lighter, and It doesnt heat up as bad. My car weighs 3650 lbs and has done an 11.90 @ 113 with a 1.8 60ft. I think there is more in it ! PLUS I got a set of the new SCJ's just waiting to be used.
Oh here's something else It made peak power with 36* timing.
Hind site probably would have got diff. heads but I'm having fun

something to be said for cubic inches.....and cyl heads.
race the car and have some fun, in the meantime gather parts for your stroker build....................get a cage, traction device etc.

Assuming a 20% loss through the drivetrain you end up with 441hp and 434 ft-lbs of torque at the flywheel.
