Re: CAMS ? STREETABILITY
Gerry,
I think Travis hit the nail on the head for cam lift, duration and spring pressure. My cam is .670-.690 lift with 256-266 duration at .050 and the springs i'm currently using have 225 lbs.seat pressure at 1.95" installed height and 555 lbs. open pressure at 1.25".The only thing with the size engine you're building will be the compression with that size cam since it might seem small in a 600" engine and build alot of cylinder pressure. Are you planning on running pump gas or race gas,if pump gas you will have to find some really big dish pistons with the C-Heads IMO.I don't know nearly as much as some people on here so i don't know how accurate i am.Gerry i drive my car on the street alot is it streetable in my opinion yes does it have a smooth idle no but i have no problems driving it on the street.
Later Mark.

To me "streetable" means that it must idle like a Crown Vic with the AC on, and pull strongly to 9500 rpm.

Honestly, it seems everyone has a different idea of whats Streetable and whats not. i know guys that say .500 lift and 216* @ .050 is not streetable at all. i know others with cams in the .750 range that call there cams a medium sized performance street cam.
It comes down to how often can you and or are willing to service your valvetrain, the size of your pocket book, and how you drive.
just my .02
You're not understanding the point ... the extra pressure creates other problems with streetable endurance besides simply the springs themselves.
Lifters, pushrods, rockers, valve seats, valve stems, guides, retainers, locks. valve seats, pushrods, lifters, rockers and the valve stem tips taking the brunt of the abuse.

Re: CAMS ? STREETABILITY
so how does this sound for a street cam.
254/260 duration @ .050
292/298 duration seat to seat
.671/.678 int/ex lift.
110 lobe seperation angle.
