An IDT Eliminator block with a 4.680 bore, bronze lifter bushings installed & LSM CNC litening program weighs approx. 204 lbs without the roller cam bearings installed. Thanks & have a nice night!!!!

3. Todd's engine. FRPP SVO block, 4.600" X 4.500"= 598 CID, TFS A-460 heads, TFS 2 X 4 tunnel ram manifold, two QFT 1150 carbs, Mezeire electric water pump, Moroso vacuum pump, dry sump pump and lines, Peterson dry sump tank, & nitrous plumbing. 735 lbs.

4. Jeff's engine. DOVE-A block, 4.440 X 4.500"= 557 CID, short fill HardBlok, Milodon splayed 4 bolt main caps, TFS A-460 heads, TFS single four intake manifold, alum. mechanical water pump, single QFT carb. 627 lbs.

Where is number 5 Charlie? I need to order front springs as I am replacing the old gabriels on there now and the weight would be a huge help.

To answer your question,,,,,engine # 5 is an all alum. block 598 CID engine with TFS A-460 18 bolt heads and a TFS single plane intake manifold. Complete with carb, oil, flexplate, internal Kaase oil pump, vacuum pump but no starter,,,,it weighs 556 lbs.

Talked to some chevy boys about that 600# number, and the 559 cubes. They were pretty quiet. Cool

Answwer;

1. The block was a stock production block and it was lighter than the aftermarket blocks.

2. The alum. P-51 heads are fairly light in weight. They are an OEM style CJ head.

3. The FRPP Victor single plane intake manifold was lighter than the bigger A-460 or C-460 single planes.

4. The #1 engine that was weaighed was Bobby Shrewsberry's engine and he won Super Pro at the 2010 Ford bash with it.

Not sure. The next lightest with p51's is +41#.
Any more reasons why #1 was that much lighter?

Engine #2, (Mike's) had P-51 heads, but the 41 lb. difference in engine weight can be attributed to the SVO A-460 block. That's Ford aftermarket racing block with really thick cylinder walls and siamese cylinders, also a beefier bottom end.

The published shipping weights of FRPP crate engines which also include the pallet:
392 "Z" engine = 545 pounds
521 with A460 block = 700 pounds
514 with production block = 670 pounds

What about an aluminum block ?.with aluminum heads built up?
am.just wondering if it would.weigh about the same.has a stock Ford block 408w with aluminum heads.

take 50-60Lbs off the cast stock block builds and maybe upwards of 75-85lbs off the A460 block builds.

My un-machined A96 is 160lbs
probably 115-120lbs @ 4.600

This is very interesting. I had always been told the Fords were heavier than chevies but maybe that isn't true. Lately I'm playing with LS motors and turbo's. here's a surprise, an Iron LS block is about as heavy as an Iron BBF. the complete engine is Lighter I think but even an alum LS block isn't much lighter than alum BBF block.
