Oil pressure
Need someone to help me with oil pressure, bounces between 70-80 lbs., took pan back off checked everything for tightness, all was good, the motor is not in car, getting it ready for dyno, but am scared, it is a Kasse pump, I called them, they said they have never had this problem, but go ahead and run it, w.t.f., are they serious?

Re: Oil pressure
If you are using an oil filter that screws directly to the cylinder block, try changing your oil filter. If you have a remote filter setup, then please elaborate on this remote filter setup.

Re: Oil pressure
We took the pan back off, checked everything for leaks, or looseness, all seemed just fine, I have about had it with this build.

Re: Oil pressure
I have seen the oil pressure flutter up and down some also. In one case, it was a big flat bottom pan, and the more quarts of oil we added to the crankcase, the better the pressure got. Apparently, the pump was pulling it out of the pan, faster than the oil could return. In another case, the pan just has a directional screen for the scraper, and even though that was doing a good job of getting the oil off the crankshaft,,,,because it was a screen, it allowed the oil in the area of the pick-up to still see "windage" and it was also sucking air bubbles. I fashioned a more solid like windage tray over the area of the pick-up and that cured things. I believe the oil in the area of the pick-up, likes a shield or umbrella (so to speak) over the top of it, so it is not exposed to the hurricane that is going on above it.
Hope this helps,
Charlie

Re: Oil pressure
Lem the oil was room temp, using a air drill, I really can't say what r.p.m. it was spinning, if it was just just quivering it wouldn't bother me, but 10 pounds back and fourth, I don't like it. I was hoping after it runs awhile, it will calm down, oh its 10w-30 oil.

Re: Oil pressure
What location ere you checking the pressure at? Mech. or Elec.? Mine did jump around a little, on this build replaced the lifters with some Morels which are .001 larger on dia and it quit jumping. Should be fine what is the relief valve PSI set at? You just about ready to get the bird out? You coming to Muncie this year?

You could have enough rpm fluctuation with and air drill to cause it to jump around. I've seen the same thing spinning a dry sump pump over with a cordless drill. I'd run it if everything checks out as you say it does. If it still jumps around, then I'd be checking the pickup to pan clearance.

No we had it on a motor stand, using a air drill, about 800 rpm's, the needle looked like a humming bird fluttering, I have to run my fuel line, and put my new fuel pump on it, we will prolly put the motor in Monday, be ready to test Friday night if everything is good to go.
