Mini Laptops
Anyone got any input on the mini's out now. The 14" laptop I used to program my MSD took a dump yesterday and I'm looking for something cheap and dependable. I don't need anything with all the bells and whistles, just something that will be primarily used to program the MSD. Thanks
Re: Mini Laptops
Fellow worker has one and it is fast and the battery last like 8 hours or something. It is a pain surfing the web because you have to scroll to see the whole page but for the MSD it would be fine.

Which brand and model does he have?
Re: Mini Laptops
I've been around two of them, and they are just fine for small tasks like what you are after. I have trouble with typing on the little keyboard with my fat fingers, but I can peck away on it pretty fair. I doubt there are any that are that bad, just get one that has the features you need.

Re: Mini Laptops
The one that he has is an Acer I believe but I asked another guy this morning and he has an HP and loves it. I use a refurbished full sized laptop from Fry's electronics. It is a Dell and it was like $400 or something.
The next computer we will use is just a rebuilt desktop from an outlet computer place. All I want on a computer is MSD, Fast XFI, BS3, and excel for my data logging record keeping. You can have all that other junk. We don't even want music because we have a radio in the trailer. Even with the Laptop now we use a 50 ft VGA cable to go to the computer outside. We make sure that our computers have a 9 pin connector so we don't have to use the USD adaptor.

Toshiba or HP
I'm also shopping for a new laptop (regular size) and have narrowed it down to a Toshiba or HP...

Re: Mini Laptops
Thanks guys! I've been on the net reading reviews and it making me nuts. I was looking for one that I could permanently mount in the car and not be affected by vibration. Dell has a nice 11", but they want and arm and a leg for one with SSD. I was hoping their Mini 10 had SSD but it doesn't. I wanted a Dell because Dell has the Employee Purchase Program with Gulfstream and Payroll Deduction.
Re: Mini Laptops
I ended up ordering the HP Mini 311 with the Solid State Drive, nice machine. It came today and I got it mounted in the car. Damn thing starts up faster than my high dollar Dell desktop in the house . Now for some testing with the new files I've been writing.
