a460 flow numbers
got my engine down and checked one out on a flow bench.i'd only cleaned these up some cuz i did'nt want to screw them up and found they have a lot left on the table.when trying to figure out why this thing would'nt run like i'd like most everybody said the heads probly could use some help and you were right.the only intake we checked topped out at 359 at 800 lift and went to shit after that.the ex done fair at 297.i did'nt know anybody with a flow bench before so i did'nt check them.this would have been a good idea before so anyone who wants to skip the flow bench get ready to do it later when your shit dont make you happy. how much hp could i get from a good hand porting?they said the short turn sucked and could be layed back for a big gain.

Re: a460 flow numbers
The last set I sold had been cleaned up and gasket matched with attention to the short side you refer to. Not a max effort deal for sure. They averaged 407@.700", 409@.750" and 411@.800". Exhaust were untouched essentially, did 305@.800". Set before that did 425@.800. You get the idea. You're leaving a lot on the table at those numbers. I see you're south of Nashville, Charlie Evans isn't a terrible drive way from you. Might be worth a phone call, I've got no idea how busy he is,(I'm sure he's busy), but I'd at least check with him. I know they will do a significantly better number than that.

2.3/1.88. i guess the low compression and poor flow#are a good reason it was lazy.Blake hit it dead on the"head",iol, when he saw it run last spring he said the heads probly would'nt better than 360.Lem Evans wrote:What size valves?

FYI, when referring to that particular part of one's anatomy, that's the wrong kind of penetration.

Re: a460 flow numbers
ok guys i dug this up for an update.i've been slow about worken on this deal but it's been HOT and i've been worken a lot too.i worked on these heads and got 435@ .800 with the 2.300 valve.the .500# was 355,so that aint bad is it? i cut them .100 too so more compression should help, and a little dome piston too thanks to Charlie .we'll see what she'll do nowcool40 wrote:got my engine down and checked one out on a flow bench.i'd only cleaned these up some cuz i did'nt want to screw them up and found they have a lot left on the table.when trying to figure out why this thing would'nt run like i'd like most everybody said the heads probly could use some help and you were right.the only intake we checked topped out at 359 at 800 lift and went to shit after that.the ex done fair at 297.i did'nt know anybody with a flow bench before so i did'nt check them.this would have been a good idea before so anyone who wants to skip the flow bench get ready to do it later when your shit dont make you happy. how much hp could i get from a good hand porting?they said the short turn sucked and could be layed back for a big gain.
