which gear.
which is better, 1.76, or 1.82 for the big block ford, I have the 176 now, some guys say my car would work better with a 182.

To my knowledge the 1.82 is a weak unit, go with the 1.76..............the ratio is not enough to matter.

I'm talking factory assemblies, the 1.80 straight cut stuff is stronger than the factory 1.76.

Harold, mine are 1.76. He said they are stronger than the 1.82. He said the 1.76 will w/stand a bunch of power. I will soon find out. keeping my fingers crossed

Re: which gear.
Avoid the 1.82 sets like the plague....the 1.82 sets use a stamped steel carrier that is much weaker than the 1.76 set. If you want to get as close to bullet-proof as you can, go with a 1.80 straight-cut. After I broke my fifth 1.76 unit, I went with a straight-cut set and have not looked back.

stock, go with 1.76. aftermarket it probably won't matter much.

Re: which gear.
I will let you know this week-end if I need a 1.80 straight cut, I'm suppose to have a bullet proof 1.76 now according to the man that built it, I hope he knows what he is talking about.
