i refuse to spend 50 bucks on a cheap spectre kit....
what have you guys done on the way cheap......i have the return springs, but need a way to mount the cable to control the carb....i just want something nice and cheap,,,,,not the usual buy it in a package kit.....
no kickdown is needed (manua trans)

Re: help me make a CREATIVE throttle control
Frank,
On my 89 Mustang i'm using a old Ford throttle bracket bolted to my Victor Intake with a mid 70's Lincoln 460 Throttle Cable.I don't know if the 2002 Mustang has the same pedal set up as the 89,Later Mark.

Same here, but the 83 Thunderbird cable fit perfect. The edebrock intake came with two spacers to raise the Ford bracket to where it needs to be.
Here you can see the bracket (blue) and the stock cable.

OK Boys he don't want to spend the 50 buck on the cheap junk stuff. I'm sure the Locar and CSR stuff is way over his budget. But like the other guys have mentioned make a bracket that bolts on to the mounting bosses on the manifold and hook you throttle cable to it .

Just a quick search at Summit under Locar throttle cables... a bunch of them are under 60 bucks... almost 3 pages worth. Sometimes it is cheaper to look at what is readily available and sold often than trying to save a few bucks.

This one came from a 1977 Lincoln Town Car. I have used other ones from earlier 70's TC 460s also and they looked pretty much the same.
Nope it wasn't from Mark's car........

Re: help me make a CREATIVE throttle control
Here is one I made from some ~16 gauge 1020CR.
Basically, it's a triangulated bracket with a notch cut in it to hold the throttle cable. I had about 1 hour of time wrapped up in it.
Have a good day!

Ok I don't wanna spend the 50 on the spectre kit cause I know it's junk. I don't mind spending moneythough. I looked at the lokar stuff and I think csi. I like the trottle brackets from both. I just know some of you have done cool things with linkage and was curious for ideas.

What the heck kind of carburetor is that? Never seen one like that all rounded off. Just wondering.96Mustang460cid wrote:Here is one I made from some ~16 gauge 1020CR.

Re: help me make a CREATIVE throttle control
Didn't we fix 2 or 3 of them Lokar cables at the Bash last year?
If I remember correctly they all were stretched and the carb wouldn't open all the way...
If it were me I'd either gather up a factory deal or make a linkage from a piece of steel tubing, modify the pedal, etc... Wouldn't be that hard to do...

ok ...ow bout a diagram? i wouldnt mid making something up or finding a way to make the stock 02 mustang cable work.........just not sure how to attach the cable to the edelbrock carb....can i cut the cable and attach a fitting to go to the carb....i can make a braket...i have a few ideas now on the bracket and just need a good way to attach to the carb
Re: help me make a CREATIVE throttle control
I'd measure from the carb to where the cable goes in the firewall and find a stock cable that fits that measurement. That 2002 cable is probably too long.
The cable hooks to the carb with a ball stud, just like a stock carb. You can buy those at the stores. The cable hooks to the pedal with a plastic grommet that just snaps in and out of the pedal.
I'd hit up a junkyard a look for a ford cable that will fit... You should be able to find everything you need there. Cable, bracket, ball stud, etc...
If you want to make a metal rod type just come off the pedal forward through the firewall then bend it towards the carb, then attach it.... You can buy a rod type linkage kit from Jegs.

Re: help me make a CREATIVE throttle control
Harold,That was funny my cable was still on there Sunday when i drove my car, maybe Bill took it after that.
Bill,i think my throttle bracket was off a 75 Lincoln.
Frank,a 83-85 Mustang 5.0 cable might also work.
John,i agree i have not had any problems with the stock Ford bracket and Lincoln cable.
Later Mark.

Re: help me make a CREATIVE throttle control
Another issue with the Lokar cables is that the ball on the pedal end of the cable is too small for the plastic bushing in the pedal and will eventually pull through! You can reuse the inner cable from your stock throttle cable inside the Lokar sheath and brackets and attach it to the carb using the end from the Lokar kit ! A 1985 5.0 Mustang cable works also.jbozzelle wrote:Didn't we fix 2 or 3 of them Lokar cables at the Bash last year?

Your right the ball end is too small but its a easy fix you just put a small washer on it and its fixed.

Re: help me make a CREATIVE throttle control
we try to use fox body throttle cables if we can. the early versions are shorter and the FI versions are longer but both will work with carb apps if you don't mind a little extra cable in the engine compartment with the latter. As far as brackets are concerned, we build our own from scrap metal.
