Re: Lastest suspension issues
Looks like is hooks initially then spins about a half turn five feet out. Wheres your I/C set at? What struts are you running in the front, and what setting? Same for the rears? It looks like your getting close. Usually when it hooks initially like that, then unloads the tire after the initial hit I've found its a I/C, or preload issue. We are dealing with similar issues with a ss 10.5 big block foxbody right now, and have it at Team Z in Michigan. When your getting relatively close like it seems you are, you have to take babysteps. Its a fine line between bumper dragging, and leaving just right. Im sure some of the ss guys will chime in.

Nick you should be able to change the speed with Window Media Player, at least the older versions you could.
Re: Lastest suspension issues
I thought about trying to slow the video down but I really can't do anything with it in it's current state (stored on photobucket, compressed & converted to a .flv file). In fact since it's on photobucket I cant even find it anywhere in my temp internet folder to copy it & save it to another folder to work with it. About the only .flv videos I can mess with now is the ones stored on youtube.bruno wrote:can somebody put that video in slow-mo for me ?
Nick what format was the video originally when you uploaded it to photobucket (.avi .wmv or .mpg)? If the video was originally a normal windows media file you should be able to take the original and edit it & slow it down using windows movie maker.

I used to use Windows Moviemaker and it would let me advance one frame at a time. Still do that?

Nick, When I said "The trailer ain't much, but it'll keep your stuff out of the rain.", I didn't realize what a prophetic statement it would be. Sorry the day wasn't better. Thanks for the fun. Are the ProMods running today?

Kinda sounds like my old '74 LTD... Pile of crap but I miss it (speaking about the slo-mo sound)...
Re: Lastest suspension issues
Tubes will help if you aint got them. Also as Blake mentioned rotate every race. Even at that the sidewalls will not last on a big hp deal, Some of the big hitters only get a dozen or so runs out of a set before they are done. Just sell then to some slow bracket car type.

Re: Lastest suspension issues
This is a perfect example that watching a clip in slowmo you see a lot more of what's going on during the launch vs viewing a clip at full speed. At first, like Barney said, it did look like it was spinning a little once it got a few feet out. But looking at it in slowmo it now looks more like it was damn near dead hooked with no spin. In fact the launch looks pretty damn good.
One thing about the hard sidewall windup, I don't think it's as much from the suspension it's self (as in a violent inital hit) because there really isn't a ton of inital separation at the hit. It looks to me more like the hard sidewall windup is more a combo of engine torque & the air pressure being a little too low. You can almost see sidewall wrinkles as the car is staging.
I think it might be an idea to play with the air pressure more at first, then move onto the shock valving. Just keep adding more & more air each pass till it flat-out spins, then back down a slight amount.

Re: Lastest suspension issues
Nick , when I talked to Micky Thompson's tech guy , he told me to rotate my tires after every race to keep the side wall cords straight. He also told me with weight of the car to run 12 inch rims and probably 13-14 lb's of air.
My best 60's were with 14 lb's on a 12 inch rim. I have pictures some where that shows the rim only an inch off the pavement with 14 lb's in the tire(killing the side wall). Mine wouldn't last a season before the side walls went away, and I don't run all that much.
Also on a hot track light burn outs help.
It looks good............. Sounds cool in slo mo too.
thxs Blake for the input , i know you mentioned the same to me at the bash .....on this burnout it was pretty quick !

Re: Lastest suspension issues
another thing i noticed in the video is when the car starts to come down it starts to leave black marks behind the car ....is it spinning the tires like Barney suggested ?
with that being said should i activated the 2nd kit when she is on the back tire or when she settles down ?

Re: Lastest suspension issues
Just imagine how violent the sidewall hit would have been if you were running a 3 speed instead of a glide.

I would agree........way more air, and then apply more power....it will take it. Slowly start limiting the front end as you apply more power.......its a balancing act....if you mess up it goes on the bumper

Re: Lastest suspension issues
I just noticed this thread and am blocked from photobucket here and my phones screen is too small so I will watch it later but.... I would run 13.5-15 psi of air with a hard hitting nitrous motor in a fox on that tire. I never ran tubes but that is up to you.
Have you scaled the car? What are your corner weights? How are your lowers set up? Do you have any preload on your ARB? What front/rear springs? Front strut setting? Rear shock setting? Any limiters? There are a lot of variables that we use to setup a car. It IS possible to set up a car to 60' hard and not kill the sidewall as much but it is just the nature of the beast that tires will not last you that long at your torque level at your weight.

I watched the video over and over. You need to add air to the rears and limit the front a little more. The rear looks good and the front end coming down looks good.

1- never scaled car
2- dont know
3- laddr bar suspension
4- zero preload in arb
5- strange up front set on #5
6- yes have limiters , but disconected them for that launch
7- double adjustable rears ...have to ck ... i think they are all in the center
8- rears are 1 1/2 old with 50-60 passes on them
