How to lower cc's on ur head
Hey guys, how much material do you have to remove from ur head to equal 1 cc ? thx. For example, the TFS A460 head with 91cc. How much would you cut to get it to 85cc. thx

I would think it would have to do w/the CC of the head. Each individual style (diff.CC) would be different. For instance a head w/larger cc's would have to have more shaved off to gain most amount CR gain.

I can't tell by the picture, and don't remember, but don't you have 18 bolt TFS heads? If you do, then you are ready have 83cc chamber heads.
The Trick Flow PowerPort A460 340 cylinder heads are machined from aluminum and have Fast As Cast 340cc intake and 172cc exhaust runners and your choice of 83cc (18-bolt) or 91cc (standard) combustion chambers. The PowerPort A460 heads feature bronze alloy valve guides, tungsten seats, big block Chevrolet exhaust port openings and bolt pattern, and 1.760 in. spring pockets. Assembled heads come with intake and exhaust valves, 1.640 in. dual valve springs for up to 0.850 in. lift, 10 degree titanium retainers, 10 degree machined locks, Viton fluoroelastomer valve seals, ARP 7/16 in. rocker studs, and guideplates for 3/8 in. pushrods.

Wouldn't you be ADDING cc's to the heads if you were to cut some metal out? Maybe I'm just reading something wrong here or taking it the wrong way?

If you remove material from the chamber you will be increasing the size (cc's).
If you remove material from the entire deck (milling the head) you will decrease the chamber size (less cc's)
In my opinion it is easier to put more material in the piston if you want higher compression than to do something stupid to a set of heads.

milling and ccing is fairly common, and not that difficult for a machine shop to perform. I wouldnt say its stupid, especially when you already have pistons. Costs alot less too.
Re: How to lower cc's on ur head
This will depend upon the actual combustion chamber shape and size of your heads.
Most "A" heads require about .0053" of metal to be milled from the head surface to reduce 1 cc of volume.

Yep, I read it wrong. I thought he was asking how much to take of of the chambers to decrease cc's.

Same here.......a .015" cut will gennerally get you almost 3cc.rmcomprandy wrote:This will depend upon the actual combustion chamber shape and size of your heads.
