I have a Simpson and it works fine but is a pain in the butt to pack. Sure wish I had me one of those cannon type chutes. I see the Pro Mod guys packing them with one hand!

Ok… ya’ll guys are starting to cost me money. I have wanted a chute with the air launcher and since ya’ll were talking about it I gave Stoud a call. They said I needed not one but two of the Pro Stock chutes. Looks like this deal will cost $1500+ bucks! One cool thing is I will use the juice to activate the launcher instead of air. Now is really a good time for the car to be down because it is so dang HOT! 103 yesterday down here in South Carolina…just too hot for me to run the car.

2500 lbs.
Best 1/8 mile time is 4.94 @ 142
Best 1/4 mile is 7.75 @ 179
Above times with the 514. Expecting to pick it up with the 598 that is going in now.

What is the NHRA rules for chutes?
We run 4.90's-5.00's 150+mph at 3300lbs and it stops very well with one chute and we don't touch the brakes until the turn. Hell we don't even have a spring or air launcher.

Think they said any door car over 200 mph needs two chutes in NHRA.

Re: chutes which ones do you guys like
I've had both Stroud and Simpson.
I like Stroud for being easier to pack.
I like Simpson for being a smaller package and the fact that the lines outside the pack are covered in leather with a foil coating. The Stroud just had a white cotton cover over the lines. Get's really nasty in a short time on a dragster (or door car if the chute is mounted low)

Re: chutes which ones do you guys like
In the amended 2010 NHRA rules PDF I got there is this for T/S.......
Page 4.15
PARACHUTE (12/21/09)
Required. Cars running in excess of 200 mph must use dual parachuteswith two separate shroud line mounting points using sleeved 1/2-inch bolts. Safety pins must be red-flagged and removed prior to burnout. See General regulations 4:8.
And there is this in the general regs..............
FRAME: 4
4:8 PARACHUTES (12/8/09)
If outlined in Class Requirements, it is mandatory to have a braking parachute produced
by a recognized drag racing parachute manufacturer. Tech inspectors may observe the
proper operation of the parachute and inspect for worn or frayed shroud lines, ripped or
dirty canopies, and worn or ragged pilot chutes. Parachute cable housings should be
mounted solidly to frame tube or other suitable member no farther back than 1 inch.
The release housing must be attached within 12 inches of the parachute pack and in a
manner that will allow the inner cable to release the parachute. When supercharged or
using nitromethane as a fuel, it is mandatory that the parachute pack and unpacked
shroud lines be protected with fireresistant material from the mounting point to the
pack. Parachutes must have their own independent mounting with sleeved 3/81/2-inch
minimum steel bolts or steel pins required for all applications. Shroud line(s) mounting
brackets must be constructed of minimum .090-inch steel.Material around the holes for
the bolts/pins must be equal to or greater than the bolt/pin size. Safety pins must be
red flagged and removed prior to burnout. The use of ball-lock pins for parachute
mounting prohibited. See Class Requirements regarding use of two parachutes. Such
applications require separate shroud-line mounting points for each parachute system.
There are a number of local Outlaw Top Sportsman 4.70 cars here that only run a single 'chute because they mostly run the T/S shows at the 1/8 mile tracks, so they aren't topping 200 mph.

As for chutes,,,,,,all I know is that Kristina Lawyer likes pink ones
P.S. I "think" it's a Stroud. More importantly she has dual caliper/dual piston rear brakes.

For all of the above reasons , Stroud , right down to my 15 layer suit. Yes over 200mph and you need 2 chutes.

Re: chutes which ones do you guys like
I have a Stroud pro stock chute on my car. Never had to use it until last race but it worked great. It really comes out soft. I don't have a spring launcher either and it works fine. It would be nice to have one though.
Re: chutes which ones do you guys like
We use ours every pass. It doesn't take long to figure out how far in front of the finish line to pull it. The first pass he pulled it when he thought he was at the finish line and it was waaaaaay too late.
It is just so easy to pack and replacing 12 brake pads is not cheap.

I agree. When I was getting licensed, one of the people who signed off for me had a Pro Stock license. He told me to use the chute every time so I'd get used to the feel and have the extra insurance of the brakes. Good advise in my opinion.
