How are you doing?
NOT busy ... wish I was; as in year's past.
Re: Fly cutting pistions
Everbody wants to build a winning combo, trouble is if you dont have the cash to do it right now either the class is gone or gotton too fast by the time you get it done. My buddy with the outlaw car is a perfect example...............
Since i built this stroker motor its had a lot of changes..............have even made changes since the last time it was out..............its part of racing.............

Re: Fly cutting pistions
I know I can't be competitive in heads up racing but I can race in the index classes. When I started this long build I was wanting to keep the truck streetable. Which making something streetable and fast and safe is exspensive proposition. I figure I'll just turn it into a race truck and save the money needed to make the thing streetable. The most important thing for me is to (A) get it finished, (B) not be the local laughing stock for working on something for so long. Only to go from a 8.0 et to 7.0 et. I expect to have the means to propel this 4,000lb truck down into the 6's if not high 5's once the suspension is right. (naturally asperated)
I'd like to run 6.0 index races.

Re: Fly cutting pistions
Like I said, that is my goal. Might have to use a little nitrous and I'm pretty sure I can get the truck weight down to 3,500lbs
Wish I could sell it all and build what I originaly wanted.

Jon A460 heads are not going to get that tank into the 6.0 or 5.9 class remember it weighs in at #4000...

Oh you could make the power, not cheap but doable. Gonna need more than a set of caltracs to compliment it though...........
I'd just rather see a brother do some racin' instead of keep changing the combo and never getting anywhere.............

Re: Fly cutting pistions
Did I read 6.0 in the eigth with a 4,000 pound truck and those engine parts NA ...?
That's almost a rediculous goal to set ... maybe around 7.0 ... !

Yes, my goal is to run 6.0 in the 1/8mile
Like I said, good chance of getting the truck down to 3,500-3,600lbs. I didn't think 6.0 in the 1/8 would be that hard to accomplish. The track elevation is around 400' above sea level.
Ok I might be wrong and have to settle for starting in the 7.0 index classes. Like I said though, my 79 that weighed over 4,600lbs was running 8's in the 1/8 mile with a 100,000 mile engine and 0 oil pressure. Is 2 secs really to much to expect out of this built combo? Not like I am wanting to run 4's like everyone else.

Re: Fly cutting pistions
6.0's is definetly fast !!!
i would have to say you are gonna need atleast 900-950hp at that weight (3600lbs)to run 6.0's and you are gonna have to be really dialed in on your suspension .......
and 600-650 hp to run some solid 7.0's @ 3600lbs

Re: Fly cutting pistions
Not only the weight but the wind resistance of a truck is working against you.
6.0's is movin', if you had kept the mustang your combo would have been close...........
Hell Doug is close to that, but his truck is light and motor no slouch, good converter, glide, big tires and good suspension to boot.

Damn,,
Well, you know there is nothing wrong with having dreams I guess. LOL Sucks when you have to turn your plans into dreams!
I think I am going to stay with the design I have and not open up another can of worms.

Re: Fly cutting pistions
I'm no hero, just a zero! Cheesy huh??
I just got to much time to think about it, if I didn't have to save as I go I would have put a strick engine build list togather and stuck too it. Instead, by not having the parts rolling in and being built, I opened myself up to second guessing. IMO

Re: Fly cutting pistions
To put it a little into real life perspective -
At the previous bashes, (not the 2010 bash), who remebers the match races between Wes' truck and George Keown's truck ... ? Those trucks were running barely better than 6.0 at high 5.8's.
